It was India in the 90s , the world wasn't so connected let alone India. My dad had a friend who would work in the Middle East. He'd come visit and once he got Khaled's cassette. My dad who couldn't understand English let alone Arabic loved this song. He would play it in the car and confuse everyone on the street because most people hadn't even heard Arabic. So after school i used to switch on my TV and anxiously wait for them to air this song for hours. These songs were a part of a vision and hope for a better future for the algerian youth during the 90s. For context Algeria was plunged into a dark period of almost a decade of civil war. Many bright artists and intellectuals were assassinated. There was a lot of fear and hopelessness that impacted whole generations and created generational trauma that haunts our collective memory. Im happy to see this song resonate with people across the globe sending the same message of love and compassion. At this moment writing this people of Gaza in whats left of Palestine are facing a genocide and nobody(governments) doing anything to stop it
