Check out Carson’s Aubrac cattle breed in Germany. These cattle have the horns to defend against wolves that come in to kill their calves. Heavy strong built cattle that would be a handful for any wolf that ventures in to close. If you want to keep your farm profitable every year, check out my 3 grazing books that I wrote on our website: greenpasturesfarm.net/books/

Neither inch and a half or two inches on the pump. 50mm I'll bet. Great to see Germans with the program. It's world-wide, just not widely adopted-yet. Thanks Greg.

The different types of livestock dogs are varied. German Shepherd does both and does not just herd but shepherds the sheep. The Guardian dog breeds LGD follow and protect. In Germany a common herding dog is a Native breed, Altdeutche Heutehund. They look like they could be that the beautiful little dogs.

Trail camera videos would be fascinating to see how the horned cattle defend against a wolf pack without stampeding over the wire. Same with the guardian dogs defending the sheep. They look like Belgian sheep dog crosses maybe some Alsatian although I note another commenter has mentioned the actual breed. Fascinating, Greg and Jan. Thank you.

Hello John Kearns, that's a great idea and I would do the same to . I'll keep well away from conventional farms . There's so much to learn from regenerative agriculture and what better way to learn then talking and more importantly listening to the people that are doing it. Greg and Jan are at the forefront of it all. Their great people.

True about the horns, in Spain the Pyrenees breeds have been subjected to a revival over polled breeds due to the horns as protection.

It is very important for a cow to have horns. A cow will store minerals in their horns. When they give birth and give milk, they use those minerals that are stored. Also, it just looks gorgeous!

That is what German shepherds are meant to look like, the version of them that ppl have as pets have been ruined by inbreeding and have made a mess of the breed by making them have malformed backs and rear legs

@@wendyrowland7787 I thought Belgium shepherd dogs were called malinois or tervurn And because of human involvement in breeding them the German shepherd, Dutch shepherd and malinois they all look very similar now compared to what they looked like 150 year ago. German shepherds used to have a very straight back but now it's horrible and slanted down causing them pain and not good as working dogs, while the Dutch shepherd and malinois have kept their straight backs and don't seem to have as many health issues and are great working dogs. Also if you passed any of these it's very hard to tell its breed as they are now all very similar

@@HootMaRoot you can blame organisations like the Kennel Club, and shows like Crufts for allowing these cruel extremities to be shown and perpetuated. One thing I do know, my GSD x Border Collie was the best working farm dog I have ever had. She knew what to do without any instruction from me, but she always asked permission.

These videos are so interesting! Thanks for introducing us to all these good farmers. I am German by birth and an American by choice. I had never heard about Germany having the biggest wolf population. Crazy! I feel horrible for the livestock and farmers. Not really surprised that they rather protect a wolf before looking out for their farmers. Boy, they can’t even carry a gun! I wouldn’t leave my house without one. So called “animal rights” groups are the worst over there. Love that breed! Good looking!

You can’t read a newspaper under those pretty animals with the milk moustaches . For some reason the name Elsie popped into my mind but the Elsie I knew didn’t have a moustache but she had a head of white curly hair. I had to stop a moment and do some research and found a picture of the original Bordens Elsie from the 1930’s not so much white on her face as the cartoon advertisement version. Gosh Elmer was her “husband “ and he worked to advertise Glue” I didn’t find out what their son Beauregard did. Sadly the original Elsie died in a truck accident while on tour with Elmer. The show continued another Jersey was selected to be Elsie and they toured for many years. I wonder how the Aubrac’s travelled to their job of fertilizer spreader specialists for the crop farmer. That sounds like a possibility for the herds in other areas it could be a business venture for local herdsmen who can have a cattle drive from crop farm to the next crop farm farther down the road. That makes me think of the goat herds that tour the country cleaning up the brush and their owners getting paid to do the job. Much easier to move a herd of goats from site to site compared to cattle. 🐂🐄🐃🐂🐄🐃🐂🐄🐃🐂🐄🐃🐂🐄🐃🐂🐄🐃🐂🐄🐃🐂🐄🐃🐂🐄🐃🐂🐄🐃🐂🐄🐃🐮 I look forward to seeing the next episode. Oh I measured my thumb to use as a reference to measure my knitting much handier to find than my ruler. Have a great day😘💞💕💞👍👍👍👍🍀☘️🍀🖖🖖🖖😘💞💕💞🙋🏼‍♀️
