I will say, though, that the price tags in her boutique are usually still out of my range. The cost of vintage pieces has risen significantly.

@@spotydog22 there is certainly that aspect. "Well curated" takes time and effort, and it's fine if the prices reflect that. :-) The only thing is, if it's made out that "vintage" is for the thrifty shopper on a budget- well, only if you had a lucky find in a charity shop. In _Doris' shop_, you are buying _art_. :-) Though the $200 for a wedding dress was an affordable option ... but that's the one I didn't like at all! ;-)

The King's Daughter over recent years there has become a definite distinction between ‘thrift’ and ‘vintage’, the days of coming across something stunning in a charity shop are long gone. Donated items are checked, and researched before possibly making it to the shop floor, anything ‘special’ is then put to one side and advertised in order to increase the amount of money raised.

The Edwardian Irish crochet dress is so stunning. It looks straight out of the recent collection of Alexander McQueen (which I think was inspired by Irish crochet). Like that dress perfectly embodies the vintage-ness of clothes: romantic, nostalgic and yet still feel very modern.

My husband's grandmothers both wore champaign pink gowns when they married in the 1930's, and I understand that pink liquid satin dresses where the height of fashion in the 1930's. My own grandmother wore a navy blue suit in 1940 because it was wartime and white fabric wasn't available for love or money. I asked her if she was sad she couldn't wear a white dress and paraphrasing what she said to me, "I wanted to marry your grandfather, not the dress, so no, it didn't bother me at all."

The Edwardian dress is gorgeous. I worked in bridal in the 80s. There was a company called Susan Lane's Country Elegance that made gowns in that style. They were beautiful. The peekaboo bodice of the Malcolm Starr is fabulous. The 90s museum piece has gorgeous lace. Reminiscent of watteau. The Juliet dress! The 70s boho! You're killing me here. The cotton lace table cloth with pants. I love it. The wax pearl headpiece reminds me of the pieces the store got from Mexico. I worked in CA and we did a lot of ethnic weddings and Quinceneras. I love the lattice work yoke of the McFadden. Fortuni pleats need to come back. I also like what you are wearing. I just discovered your channel. Subscribing.

Bridal industry in modern times is simply a grind factory of overpriced homogenized styles with boring cheap styling. Vintage clothing is fragile and delicate and often has suffered some degradation over time either in fiber or dye. It is a pleasure to see functional vintage in wearable condition.

My sister had a spontaneous elopement in Florida a few years ago and my grandmother was the one who called to order the cake and after getting the price for a small wedding cake she hung up and called back 20 minutes later for a regular small cake and it was literally a tenth of the price for the exact same cake. Flavor, size, decorations, everything was exactly the same but because it didn't have the word wedding in front of it it was cheaper. The whole industry is a joke.

Charmaine Eng Bless you , I feel sorry that you think UK cater to plus size people , people who live here think it’s pretty rubbish lol 😝. It must be horrendous in your country then ?! America seems a lot better , though I’m sure people from there , don’t think that either . 🥺 My dream is plus size Vintage . 😢
@CharmEng89
@CharmEng89 4 жыл бұрын
@@juliewilson3237 oh! No its more that I am more likely to find clothes in my size in the UK compared to back home. It's not quite horrendous but options (esp for dresses) do become limited as sizes run on the smaller side. I have solved this problem somewhat by adopting a "uniform". I buy black work slacks from M&S and blouses from Uniqlo. And for casual wear, t shirts and wrap skirts. Not very exciting, but easy.

I spent the better part of the 80s looking for plus size vintage. Overall there were not many fashionable options for young women sizes above 16 until around 1980. Larger clothes were styled for older women. Try vintage style reproduction- get the look but not the hassle.

Thank you very much Doris and team for the video, I loved that Frock Stars ep! :). I tried to find a vintage wedding dress but was unsuccessful (this was before I knew about The Way We Wore so had a copy made). What's quite unbelievable is that I live across the road for a 5 floor vintage store here in Berlin, Germany and even after months of searching I still couldn't find something. And before you ask, yes visit the store way more than I should! And yes, I have purchased so many (too many) amazing pieces. Living in Europe allows me to indulge in the thrill of the hunt! We have fantastic flea markets/ vintage stores all over and you never know what you'll find! The nice thing is that it's mostly fairly affordable, so I have been able to incorporate vintage into my everyday wardrobe :) Once again Thanks for the video, keep up the great work! I'm hopeful that one day I'll make it to The Way We Wore, I just hope I have a reason or special occasion to buy something lovely from the store.
