Chip brought my cat home after 12 years!!!

Oh my Heavens! Just yesterday I finally read my cat’s health insurance plan and discovered that it covers my cat to have a microchip implant. Now seeing your video….well I’m calling my vet after I finish this comment to make an appointment. Thank you!

Long story made short, that's how I got my cat back because I updated her information on her microchip.

I’m glad I came across this so I can remember to update my girls’ chips! I moved from Dallas, Texas to San Francisco, CA. If they were to get lost here in SF, it would be a mystery to return them! Thank you!

1. Although Jackson stated in his video that (only) a number is reported from a chip when scanned, at least one commenter seems to think the chip carries more information; it does not. The additional information is in a database maintained by the chip provider. 2. Back when I had our cats' chiipped and sent in the address, I followed up by contacting the chip provider a few months later and verified they could retrieve the correct contact information.

Im in the UK and have recently become a "Scan Angel" two cats i have scaned so far, one had a chip and is now back home the other had no chip and is now my Ferrell "friend" 🤐🐱💕

Updating the address for our kitty's chips is on our forthcoming moving list. During their last annual checkup, I asked the new vet to verify that the cats' chips still report the number when scanned.

I loved that my cat was chipped when I adopted him. I still worry about my Sammy getting lost so I bought him a tracker. He is double covered now, because I'd hate to lose my precious fur baby. 😊

Thanks for the reminder! I updated my cat’ info when we moved, so I know the info is there. But I just changed my number, so I need to update that (though thankfully the other family members’s numbers and vet’s number is up to date and correct).

Good reminder. My girl has a booster shot coming up, so I'll have the vet check her chip then. Just to be safe, because she's a total Houdini cat who loves sneaking outside, and even knows how to open our front door if we forget to lock it.

Our cat (a stray that our son found and whom we re-homed) actually had a chip, but with no information on the chip! We took him to our vet and had him re-chipped. Quite a mystery...

Your cat is 22 times more likely to be returned to you if microchipped then if not. Get that cat microchipped!

Wednesday, neutering and chipping!!

I have such a sweet kitty. He’s 3 months and today is the second day he was about to be catnapped yesterday our neighbors took him. They say he’s so sweet that they didn’t want to leave him. 😂

Japan recently made it mandatory for all breeders and pet stores to implant all animals with a chip. I wish more countries would do this!

All shelter cats that I know of come with a chip. The shelter always provides instructions on how to register the chip. It’s super easy and takes only a few minutes!

YES! *Always* remember to register the chip! Otherwise we get a bunch of cats with chips, but no owner registered. I tend to recommend ear tattoos as well while we neuter/spay.

My microchip company sent me a reminder email! Our babies' info is all up to date but it was a good reminder because I love them more than anything.

When you chip your kitty or puppers, check the services the company offers. While some are free, this often means it's harder to get a hold of a living person when you find an animal registered to them. Plus, the company I chose, Home Again, you can enroll in their premium services for about 25 bucks a year - this covers a certain amount to go towards recovery efforts, but the best part is their deal with the ASPCA Poison control line. My three years of enrollment, still has me in the black by a couple hundred bucks. I'm a big fan.

I had my cat chipped at the City chipping day, the year I adopted her. I registered the chip the next day. The City has a big annual chipping campaign, at a fraction of the price of a vet clinic.

All of my cats and dogs are chipped! Gives me such peace of mind.

Before I wasn't that big on microchips, then we had a massive tornado. Pets were scattered all over. We still have stray dogs popping up. If my cats could have gotten out of the house there's no telling how far they would have ran. They were very traumatized. Good news, the stray cats survived and stayed in the neighborhood. I don't know what they did during the tornado but they are still here. 💞

Always chip your companions and keep the info updated! Also a good idea to ask your vet to scan for the chip at an annual visit as they occasionally shift about if not implanted properly. Better to know before the unthinkable happens.

There was a guy whose cat went missing as a kitten and he had microchipped it, somebody found it almost 16 YEARS later and took it to the vet because it was in poor health and it was going to be put down but because it was microchipped, they were able to contact the original owner and he got his cat back got his senior Kitty back into good health.

I raise this to everyone I know who has a cat. It makes all the difference. Even if your cat is an indoor cat you must still chop them. I’ve seen too many stories on rescues sites about indoor cats that got out and weren’t chipped 💜

Microchipping your cat is like putting a bracelet with your phone number on your child's wrist when going to an amusement park, it doesn't hurt and helps bring them back to you if they get lost, please chip your cats people!

All my cats are chipped and registered! And I helped 3 cat carers to get their cats back, after I found the cats in our garden / in the street. It really really works folks!

One of my cats already had a micro chip, and my vet checked every visit if he could actually check it. And somehow the chip didn’t work anymore! So definitely advisable to check once and a while.. my cat has 2 chips now..

Recently moved, so changing the address on her chip was one of the first things on my list. Luckily this is quite easy to do with the system her chip is registered in (just changing it up online)but will surely check next time I have to take her to the vet. They probably will check anyways, since I also have a new vet because of moving.

Seen this short last night, and was like, yeah I'm up to date with my cat's microchip. >_> Then I decided to double check and lo and behold I hadn't updated the address, other phone numbers (my parents as other emergency contacts), and the vet that we take her to. I just moved 2 months ago, so everything is chaotic. Glad I checked out her microchip info and updated it after this video!

i actually am getting my cat Cleo chipped when i get her spayed on Tuesday. I got her a few weeks ago. She's 7 months. My first cat, so your videos have been very helpful.

I just reunited a chipped cat with his previous owner. It had been 3 years since she last saw him and she was overjoyed to have him back. When he was first found, her contact info wasn't up to date. If you move, please notify the chip company! I managed to find her current address by matching her name to a new address in the county property records office.

We check the chip at every vet checkup.

This system is really useful. Less aggressive than the former tatoo system (in France a vet will implant a chip to identify your cat, and your cat is registered in a national database, accessible for any vet. It's a great system.) The chip is useful when you need to control the food your cat eats. You can buy food distributor who is using the chip to open and let your cat eat a specific quantity or kind of food. It's really useful when you have several cats.

I ask the vet to check every time we go in.

My cat's chip is registered to my dad's address but my phone. Our vet set it up that way, because she knew I was planning on moving, and we didn't know how quickly I was going to get the paperwork together to get the cat moved in with me (two days, much MUCH shorter than expected) we haven't changed it, because he has back up stuff there just in case, and so does my brother.

A microchip says a cat will have a better chance of not being put down; microchip even strays, it means you could be saving their lives. That's what my vet told me and I always do that.🥰

My kitty-butt has a chip. Somebody told me you're supposed to pay a monthly fee to keep up monitoring. I've never had to pay anything. I'm going to have to double-check to make sure he's actually registered.

I'm glad I got my cat microchipped, but I need to recheck the info to make sure it's current. My cat is prone to dart out the door and run around, so getting her back in can be iffy.

Watch when the chip is implanted! If it is placed wrong...too deep...it can go between the vertebrae of the neck & cause many issues. It does not need to be implanted deep to work....

So years ago when my 2nd cat who was always allowed out; streetwise & able to defend herself etc went out one day… she didn’t return home; she by this time was getting on in years (about 14 I think but still fully able/ still heathy) Was gone for about 4 days with no explanation as to why; like it was unusual for her to spend all day outside & away from home but she would always come home whenever hungry or to sleep or to chill in our garden etc… would never go far Wasn’t until about 11:30 at night my dad hears her chirps from downstairs that he got up, investigated & obviously fed up & gave her strokes etc… I meanwhile had just arrived home about the same time after going to the cinema From this experience we decided that we’d get her microchipped, even if she only had a couple year left (was put down about 2 years later as a result of old age problems such as weakness in legs & having spasms etc) Then whilst living alone, I knew I wanted a cat as a companion; as a friend and as someone to reduce anxiety- which started during 2020/ covid due to loneliness & the anxiety that comes as a result of getting hyped to see people again… then again who didn’t feel this way even a little bit Once my then-kitten was then old enough to be spayed & as is standard practice… I had her microchipped too! Because whilst me & my current cat live in a top floor flat… I may move one day to a house in which she’ll have free roam of the garden & local area if desired I personally don’t use a collar on my current cat; simply as she’s a longhair & collars “eat” into the fur & strip it away… would ruin her beautiful coat However I feel rest assured that should she one day get lost & someone is able to take to a vet… providing she doesn’t act feisty and “bitchy” (sorry for the word) towards them I’m at peace knowing she’d always be able to come home to me should something happen But like with my first cat who may have accidentally locked in a garage or something somewhere & was able to get out & find her way home We got lucky that despite whatever the U.K. odds are for non collared; non microchipped cat… that she came home So that’s why I agree with Jackson (and all vets & pet experts) that microchipping your cat, dog… whatever, rabbit??? Is essential to be a pet owner A long story but thanks

If you adopt from a rescue usually your kitties will be spay/neutered and chipped - bonus!

And check where the chip is on your animal. Yes it should be on the back of the neck but it's not full proof. My cousins dog sat in the rescue for 2 weeks because they couldn't find her chip, it had moved from the neck where it was implanted to her shoulder. They only found her because they were physically going into each rescue to look for her.

Our 3 cats and our dogs have a chip. They are internationally registered. I always update our addresses/phone numbers if anything changes. Just in case

Chip, spay and neuter. Every cat, every time!

If you adopt a cat from a shelter, the shelter will usually automatically chip their animals during the spay/neuter surgery. It’s priceless! Yet another reason to adopt and not shop. My cats are inside cats but should they ever get out I know that my kiddos will make it back home to me, or should something awful happen like getting hit by a car, the animal control can contact you to pick up your animal for burial or cremation, personally I’d rather know then imagining the worst.

also important to remind people that chips are not a sci-fi thriller movie "tracker", a vet cannot "find my iphone" with your cat, so please do not yell at your vet care provider if your pet is lost. It's a stressful situation, but that's not how the chip works. thanks Jackson!

I have a confession to make: I still haven't changed over the chip info for a cat I adopted 2 years ago. Each time I try to transfer her microchip info over to my name, Home Again directs me to a phone number, and I'm put on hold indefinitely.

When scanning and no Chip shows up, remember that a chip can move and keep scanning. Happend to my cat. A long time ago, while living in a City abroad, my Cat escaped the flat and ended up in the Cat Shelter, brought in by an neighbour who found him, not knowing it was mine. The Shelter was understandable a bit reluctant to releases him to me without further proof of ownership....uhm, check the chip maybe? Huh, what Chip? He was scanned and showed no chip? Yep, the chip had moved from its original position, further scanning showed it finally in lower shoulder region.

Awe. Good tip. Meowow. Mrrp. Rowowow. lol.

Not sure about the US but in Canada, there are several different services that offer chips. Problem is that not all pounds or rescue services can read these chips. Further more, not all rescues can access all registry's. Case in point, I adopted a dog that had 3 chips! Not always helpful

They aren't able to tell me where to update the chip. I adopted this older cat, she already had chip from previous owner. They said I would need to know where the chip came from, but there is no way for me to get that information.

Too late for my cat who passed away last month but in my situation I found an abandoned cat that was microchipped. Turned out the owner died and the sister probably just dumped him out somewhere. So I didn't know what to do if adding a second microchip would do anything. They told me I would have the contact accompanied how the hell am I supposed to know that cut open my cat's skin and pull the microchip out? He was an outside cat and I would worry about him not finding his way home but I didn't have to worry about that I would just whistle and he would come from wherever he was at
