We use the past continuous to talk about events and temporary states that were in progress around a certain time in the past. We use the past simple to talk about events, states or habits at definite times in the past.
When used together, the past progressive and the past simple help us to show how two past actions or situations are connected.
The past simple shows us that an action happened at a certain time in the past, while the past continuous shows us that the action was already in progress at a certain time in the past.
In this video, we put these two tenses together, to check if you understand them, and how well you can use them.
Good luck!
