re: the “soprano cornet instrument”: the range of that VI in Kontakt is F2-E5… nearly 3 full octaves. The 1 very highest (soprano?) octave is pretty clean & I’m guessing was sampled from a cornettino. In real life players may be hard pressed to go beyond 2 octaves on any sized instrument. Oxford’s Grove Music Online states: “The cornett is known in three main sizes - treble, small treble (cornettino) and tenor, of which the treble has by far the greatest importance…” “The compass of the curved treble cornett was «from g to a″» until the 17th century, when parts were taken up to d‴ or even to e‴.” “The 16th-century cornettino (Ger. kleiner Zink, Cornettin) was a 5th higher than the treble cornett; during the 17th century it was a 4th higher (and known as a Quartzink)…” …“Walther’s Lexicon (1732) gives its range as «d′ to d‴» or even up to a‴.” “The tenor cornett (Fr. taille des cornets; Ger. grosser Zink; It. corno torto, cornone) was «pitched a 5th lower than the treble cornett…»” Early Music and virtual instruments are a very special combination, and maybe this will inform some geeks of like-mind "out there". hth

well-done, clear presentation overview of a good library... I bought this for the Dulcian (as of today, I think it really is the ONLY available dulcian VI).

I used this library extensively on a project. I was surprised that there were no provisions for tuning on the gui(s) - essential for getting an authentic sound from instruments that predate equal temperment. Presets for pythagorian or just intonation - including key - are easily available within Kontakt and FA's free simple flute instrument has those tuning controls right there on the front panel - so again I was surprised at that. Instead they waste the space on the instrument's picture. I like the portatif organ even though it's swimming in reverb. The closest mic is generally the only usable one in this entire collection. All samples have baked-in reverb. The larger organ is horribly out of tune, as is the hurdy-gurdy. I ended up using the excellent drone / rhythmic tool from that instrument combined with a different hurdy-gurdy lead. The strummies - lutes etc - are great and there's a terrific variety there - good for creating ensembles, and the rhythmic strumming tool is nifty. The cornetto is a joke. Listen to a real player like say Michael Collver - big difference. Likewise although useable most of the woodwinds do not sound like they were played by experts. They are a bit uneven and also whoever programmed the instruments doesn't seem to understand how the sound is made. For example the capped reeds - cornamuse, krumhorn and so on. These are effectively bagpipes sans bag - the sound is either on or off - you literally stop the notes with your tongue. There is no fade out or vibrato. I love the zampogna (bagpipe) btw although I do wish the drone didn't loop so audibly. The bowed strings like vielle have cool scripting for playing authentic sounding double stops built in. (those oft had very flat bridges so you always end up playing an open string) However they only work in one or two keys - awkward. Speaking of strings they include baroque violin for some reason, but they also include harpsichord so go figure. The recorders....there are no renaissance recorder Kontakt instruments out there. Even the drawings on the gui show baroque instruments. There is some chiffing - not authentic or good sounding. Good thing this is Kontakt where you can pop the hood and fix things. The tabor pipe is excellent. I wish they had included the actual tabor. Speaking of which the percussion does sound like it was recorded in a castle somewhere. Tons of reverb. Some of the round robins cause timing errors. All in all I like this library but it took a bit of work to make it sound good. However it was between this or "Dark Era" and I prefer Kontakt - based instruments among other things. It's a bit pricey. Still bought it :)

Its more Renaissance... not Medieval. Most important Medieval Instruments are missing.

Organ sounds amazing but the other instruments sound too wet.

Does anyone know a way to keep a longer sustained note on the vielle? Right now it only plays for about 3 to 4 seconds and then stops.
