In today's video, I upgraded the suspension on my Rustler 4x4! The 3 year old stock shocks just weren't doing the job anymore, especially now that the car has lots of heavy upgrades, so I upgraded them to some GTR shocks. I also installed some springs from the Traxxas E Revo, which do a much better job at holding up the car. I was impressed by the improvement! The higher ride height makes a huge difference for off road bashability. Enjoy!
Part numbers:
Front shocks: TRA7461
Rear shocks: TRA7462
Don’t get the wrong ones! They’re very different lengths!

I also noticed that on a Tekno car I built recently it has the same design where you screw the bottom cap the the end of the link, and when you bought the wrong ones, at least you have a full set of new shocks!

I've got a box full of springs and fluids from experimenting with the gtr shocks on this truck and I found a spring combination that I can't recommend enough for anyone out there doing the same thing. Tekno ET410 front springs (orange) on the front and associated sc10 4x4 rear (red) springs on the rear. I'm running 35wt fluid in the front and 37.5wt in the rear with this spring setup. Give this spring setup a try and I guarantee you're not gonna take em back off.

The “slash ultimate” springs are def not strong enough. Great shock but ive been around the block to say the least finding springs.

Definitely! I’ve been looking for about a year for stiff springs, and the E Revo ones are the only ones I’ve used so far that have worked. (For the rear at least. The front seems fine stock.)

I thought that I ordered the yellow springs but I actually ordered the gold ones, how do you think they will work? Will they be way too stiff?
@CHEESEBURGERRC
@CHEESEBURGERRC Жыл бұрын
I believe the gold ones are quite a bit stiffer than the yellow ones. I find that the yellow ones work perfectly for my rustler, but any stiffer would probably be too much. My rustler is also a lot heavier than stock, so if yours is lighter, gold would almost certainly be too much.

The shell has seen better days. At the time of making this, it was held together with hot glue and dreams, so it didn’t hold itself on too well.

i just ordered gtr front and rear for my rustler 4x4 with the black springs. Not sure what oil to use or if i bought the wrong springs. I drive on grass a lot and gravel, asphalt etc... Did i make a mistake with the traxxas black springs?
@CHEESEBURGERRC
@CHEESEBURGERRC Жыл бұрын
Black is the second stiffest if I remember correctly, and the oil that comes with the GTR shocks should be 30 weight. If you're running on grass/gravel, you'll want softer springs and oil so that it absorbs the bumps better. (Although I'd keep the stiffer springs because most of the softer ones are WAY too soft.) Asphalt is very different - you want stiffer stuff for better control. The black springs and included oil should be a very good all around bashing setup, but you may want to consider the blue springs if you do more on-road stuff, or if the black ones feel sloppy.

@@CHEESEBURGERRC thanks. I do drive on road, but mostly on grass and gravel, dirt at the campground. Small little jumps nothing major. Stock has blue in front and red in rear. Also I seen your video about the hoss wheelie bar. Will that fit right on the stock rustler or did you have any extra parts when you mounted that on? Oh yeah I literally just got the 4x4. Have had the 2wd for years. So I'm gonna beat the crap out of the stick shocks first if they're any good then replace with the GTR and springs. Also thank you for your reply. Subbed

The hoss bar just screws right on! I wish they included it from the factory. It’s way tougher! I did the same thing! I ran my 2wd rustler until it was basically a pile of screws, and then upgraded to a 4x4.

What’s the best oil weight to run in a rustler 4x4 lots of street and off-road dirt racing
@CHEESEBURGERRC
@CHEESEBURGERRC Жыл бұрын
Those are 2 very different usages! For off road stuff you’d typically want lighter oil to absorb bumps, but on road you might want something thicker. Personally, I run 40 weight, or just whatever is included from the factory. It’s a pretty good balance and it works well for most stuff!

Lots of people complain about the driveshafts, but it honestly was never really a problem for me until I upgraded the motor. My main issue was the plastic spur gear shearing (because of an issue with the motor) and the steering knuckles breaking when I crashed.

I did the front as well, but I just used the regular Rustler 4x4 GTR shocks (Not the E-Revo ones) because the front wasn’t nearly as heavy and didn’t need it. They were about as stiff as the originals, so it didn’t lift the front at all. Only the back got lifted.
