Chekhov is one of the most approachable Russian writers. Most of his works are quite short and sweet, so they would be a good introduction to Russian classics. One of his friends said that in his presence everyone felt a desire to be simpler and more truthful, and I think that you can feel this when you read his short stories, novellas and plays.
This is where you could start:
1. The Man in a Case
2. Ward no. 6
3. The Black Monk
4. The Lady with the Little Dog
5. The Seagull
6. Uncle Vanya
This is the fifth part of KLASSIK, a series that will, hopefully, inspire you to read Russian literature.
