While I liked some of her other sings before, this is the one that really made me fall for her stuff all the way. I really discovered it while walking around stoned outside my dorm in winter. is there a better way to discover music?

I was waiting patiently for the release of this, and then for you to review it. The Waves Have Come is my favorite track, it just kills me. Feels like a classical orchestration. Love it.

I love the long droning oblivion of "we hit a wall", it was the track that introduced me to Chelsea, I was instantly hooked.

Great review Anthony. Even though I've heard it maybe 7 times hearing you talk about it makes wanna listen to like right now. And I personally really dig the vocals on the warden just because Chelsea's vocals on that track sound like nothing else she's done before. And I just plainly like the way this "new" vocal style sounds.

And her live band from a few yrs back when I saw her was so huge and loud. Blew me away with how her recordings transformed live in concert. She’s very cool as an artist. She has her on LP persona, but then live she is ready to bring the guitars and drums to your ears

Really loved this album, it's right up there with Shaking the Habitual as my album of the year thus far. Chelsea's music is so ethereal and beautiful, she impresses me more and more with each release.

didn't care much for the warden but everything else is stellar. great review! I think you might dig the new Forest Swords and Kayo Dot. different genres? sure... but a similar dark, gothic yet refreshing atmosphere permeates through them

I love Chelsea Wolfe so much! I really like this album. I agree there are some busts, but only a couple. Most of them are so amazing it's unreal. I like how every one of her albums are totally different musically and it's intriguing and satisfying. I am pretty disappointed that she changed Feral Love for the album though...I liked it better the old way. Badass album.

I thought I'd never like an album more then I liked Apokalypsis. Pain is Beauty, although it has a slow build-up, I love that about it and it literally sounds like another evolution. I love how with every album you can tell it's her but she is so great at experimenting. Some people go stale with it after awhile but so far she keeps me interested and fixated and brings me to new worlds each time.

Apokalipsis was one of my favorite album of the last years, so when i heard the new album I was a little disappointed because it was very different from my expectations. I think I have to consider it as something different with a different experimentation and dig in it more.

I don't get why he constantly describes Apocalypsis as such an uncohesive album. Yeah, there are some influences but the album's sound itself is very organic and each song feels connected to the rest of them.

I like Pain Is Beauty. It took a couple of play-throughs to warm up to it though. All the dark, beautiful layers of sound distracted me from the lyrics. Review suggestions: The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You by Neko Case Tales of Us by Goldfrapp

Strange how the songs you didn't like as much/got impatient with were some of my favorites. "We Hit A Wall" is my favorite on Pain Is Beauty, though. Apokalypsis and Unknown Rooms were easy 9 or 10's for me. This had a bit too much build up like you said, but they are all solid songs, IMO.
