I love traveling alone! I pick a different city every year for a solo trip, and it's such a joy to wander around doing whatever I want.

I went to New York City a couple months ago with my husband and my parents for my brother's 30th birthday (we're German but he moved to NYC a couple years back). It was exhausting. There were some tensions among the family and it was raining the entire time we were there (which made it worse). Even though those weren't good memories I was glad to take some time to think about it watching your video just now. Closure? I don't know. I admire you for being able to withstand this giant of a megacity. Have been watching your content for a couple years and I really like your vibe. Very real. Thank you.

Chelsea this is such perfect timing, I'm going to be in the city visiting my friend next week and need to entertain myself alone for a day while she's at work and was just going to google some ideas of what to do but these are great ideas!!

I loved Chelsea Market when my friend took me there! We went at night when many of the shops were closed, but it’s so cool and full of artsy things in there, and I want to go back during the day sometime. It’s also near the western end of the Skyline, which has its own art installation. Even if you don’t like the statues or the plants, you can gaze upon the very interesting architecture/buildings, as well as the street life below. In addition to that, the western end is very close to Little Island. My friend, who had lived in NYC for a couple of decades, hadn’t heard of it and we both experienced it for the first time together. It’s so beautiful at night (don’t miss the the foot-powered blocks that make chime sounds). Also, he and I took the free Staten Island ferry round trip, which got a lot closer to the Statue of Liberty than the park. In addition to being a good place to do some reading, the parks are a great place to people watch. Very close to the Strand, there’s also a comic book store called Forbidden Planet (it has some fun things that aren’t comic books, as well). The East Village is pretty cool to walk around -whether by yourself or with a friend. I have a very small budget and only spent money on food or coffee (except for getting a copy of Maus from Forbidden Planet), and spent less than $170 collectively over two trips in two different years (airfare and accommodations not included).

my wife and I went to NYC i. 2017 and went to a lot of the same places you did in the video. We stayed an airbnb and did all the free stuff. We barely spent any money. Lastly, I proposed to her in Central Park❤

Gosh, how did you know I needed something to watch after getting back from my run? It was fun seeing what you suggest for a day. I had a day in NYC last summer when I was passing through for work and took a bunch of classes at Peloton, walked around a bunch and had a meal with some friends in Hell's Kitchen. When the weather is nice, NYC is a glorious city for endless walks!

I needed this, so many ideas for my next NY trip!

Couldn’t agree more on traveling alone! I came to New York last year for Cap Carter concert in a super small venue, ate pizza and went to the after party. So glad went alone. Fun fact that’s when I started watching your videos after I visited New York! 😊

If I visited NYC for one day, some must-do's would be Central Park, and as many Broadway Shows as I can squeeze in, and of course walking the Brooklyn Bridge and seeing the Statue of Liberty. Great Job! I feel like I was on vacation watching your video, and I need that badly!💓 And you are so right... waiting around for others to get out and explore is just an excuse, solo exploring is building confidence!!!💃

Hi Chelsea! What a great video! I LUV days like this and as a NYer myself, I've done quite a few of them. Nothing like having the city 'kind of all to yourself' during the week. And on such a lovely day. (the weather has been SO inconistent this year) This vlog was super nostalgic for me. My fave was the West Side Hwy bike path. Used to cycle that every Sunday during Spring/Summer many years ago. Would love to get back to it. And since I'm now in Jersey...the ferry ride also rang familiar. I really need to do more of that. Lastly, Posman books in Chelsea Mrkt, Strand Books, Union Square, walking the BK Bridge.....all really wonderful touchstones for my life. BTW...I've never done the surprise book thing at Strand. I'm DEFINITELY gonna try that. And HELL YEAH to doing it by yourself!!! Friends are cool. But a day on your own can be a wonderful treat to yourself. I'd love to see a 2nd video...whenever the weather allows. Have fun!
