Chemically dipping a whole 1969 Mercury Cougar to remove all the paint and rust

Chemically stripping the paint and rust off this classic 1969 Mercury cougar convertible.
This was a pretty simple job. The paint wasn’t tough at all and there was barely any rust. You may notice the bracing where the doors were. We recommend structurally reinforcing all cars but especially convertibles. That way it ensures there is no flexing or warping.

Even after I haven't been an industrial painter for more than 10 years, I still find well prepared steel beautiful. Man, there was nothing like sand blasting mill scale off and watching that profile shape up. I would often draw shapes and then blast em smooth. You know.... For science

SWEET. Just brought back a memory from late ‘60s. I was still riding bicycles. Me and a friend rode our bikes to a row of garages where his older brother had a garage and was working on a car. Chevy is all I remember at that age. Well when we got there he had the paint and primer totally off the body. I didn’t know any better. Two days later we rode our bikes back over to the garage. Horror. The body had rust ALL OVER THE BODY. I can only imagine what he had to do next because we never went back to check. Ahh the good ol days. Thank You 🙏

Someone learned that the hard way. It's bad enough to lift it dry without them, but with all that liquid in it, it would get tweaked pretty badly.

Thank you ! Watching these videos is so cathartic for me. For me, it doesn’t really matter the make of vehicle ( even though I’m a Ford guy) that is going into the tank, it just the process of “before an after” that does it for me. Great video, keep up the good work !

NOT acid is trapped and will cause rust in between every pinch weld of whole car If you can't dip it in primer you ruin a car this way Lifelong body shop owner 40yrs I've seen the years later effects of this sadly on cars people put BIG bucks in

It was made in the era I was born and I worked on those in the beginning of my career and I miss the 60/70/& early 80's cars. Life was good and better than today Didn't take a 25 hour ticket to put a motor in something like a Toyota Sequoia or something like 6 Today cars and trucks are just too over engineered for working on them like before. Glad I am getting closer to retirement. LOL

Is it dipped it something to keep it from getting a surface rust on removal? I think it would be nice once the welding is done to dip in something that would coat all the inside channels. You could finnish bump and fill on the exterior panels then.
