Implementing Suellios techniques i so hard when you already have bad habits. I for example was steering to much and when I first tried following Suellios advice, I realized that my trail braking finally is rotating the car. When I practiced that, I first was slower (like a lot slower), and that's what's disheartening and makes people believe that it doesn't work, so they fall back into the old habits that kinda worked, but not really. Key is to give yourself time to get the timing right and when that happens and your muscle memory is retrained, you will get faster. A lot faster. You need to allow yourself to be slow, when you practice new techniques. I'm still not perfect, but I'm already faster than ever before. Next thing on my list is the light hands technique!

Hi! I started Suello's Motor Racing Checklist 2.0 last week. I saw what Random Callsign shared of his coaching session with Suello a month-ish ago, and that moved the needle for me. I'm 67 yrs old, and have been playing racing games for a decade or more. I really got bit by the sim racing bug during the pandemic like many of us, and recently moved from desktop to a GT Omega rig. I discovered your channel in 2020. I find you inspiring. You bring such a joyful perspective to sim racing. Love your passion and willingness to share. Thanks for sharing your learnings from your session with Suello.

I’ll never forget the first time you mentioned the topic of having a relaxed grip at the wheel. It stuck with me. These days I’m driving much more relaxed, using one finger to shift. I’m not much of a training guy; all my practice comes from jumping into races… I know, I should do practice but still I’m able to compete and (most important) have fun. 🥳 thanks for the video. Sim engineer again. I’m always impressed with your commitment to improving. Something I learned from a real racer recently and I thought I would share. He said we should never rest our left foot(heal) on the floor or the plate on our rigs. When we do this we use ankle pressure not leg pressure. It made a huge difference on initial and trail braking.

@Vip-np8op

I realize I should explain this more. When using a load cell brake, we learn muscle memory regarding how much pressure. If we use ankle movement we are adding a position sensor that doesn’t actually exist. We not only have to learn the amount of pressure but we also have to learn to move our ankle to the right position. Keeping your foot off the ground eliminates this.

If this comment gets selected, please roll again as I already won. I bought Suellio's motor racing checklist after you asked us to subscribe to him and rcs. There are 3 lessons from his checklist where he asks you to purposely oversteer the car, then pursposelly understeer the car and then drive the limit of the car without worring about the racing line or apex. I loaded into assetto corsa in nordschleife with the e92 bmw, turned off traction control and started to do the excercise. After a while, I was drifting, I never drifted before but when I saw the replay it was insane how it looked like drifting videos. I found out that to properly drift, you need to even let go of the steering wheel and point the car with throttle and breaks, then catch the steering wheel and minimally correct. I then loaded into a togue server with the tuned AE86 and it was insane how it suddenly clicked. I always heard about the importance of slip angle in togue and the infamous 4 wheel drift where the car is rotating with slip angle while the tires are pointing straight, it was such a joy to do and my lap times fell down to the floor. That's when I finally understood what driving the limit means and how fast it can make you, but you need to let go of the steering wheel (or lightly touch it) and let your throttle and breaks do the work. The fact that you have 20 years of experience and are still learning new things is the beauty of motorsport, it is so complex and has so many variables that finding new things to control in the formula is always a pleasure. Keep going buddy, your videos are gold.

@Lessenjr

Hmmmm. Maybe? As mentioned, trailbraking is a major contributer to pace and higher quality pedals are supposed to make that skill easier to replicate iver and over. I recently upgraded my wheelbase amd although it has pro wn to be a better experience, I dont know own that I would say that there's more pace to be had from it. I'll have to entertain this light hand technique. All my buddies with "better" pedals say it's a major upgrade to what I have currently. Some day I'll find out.
@ScottOmatic

@@Lessenjr I upgraded my Logitech G25 pedals to high-end pneumatic pedals.. and while I still don’t have enough time with them (still have to upgrade my simrig for them) The feeling of the direct drive wheel I upgraded to feels much more substantial. Of course, I learned to master trail-braking with crappy entry level pedals many decades ago.. so maybe load cells are great for beginners and less so for experienced sim racers? I know many “pro” sim racers who prefer the light feel and short throw of basic and cheaper pedals versus fancier things.. but i also know some total beginners who could get on with it immediately and much easier with load-cells. Just a theory based on some things I’ve seen. I hope to get on with my new pedals once I start actually using them!

Awesome vid as always - I have just got to a point where I can actually relax enough and have started trying the light hand approach. I love your idea of doing something deliberate (moving 3 fingers off the rim) to mentally remind you to do light hands. Will definitely try that or something similar :)

Great advice I'm able to do both light hand & breaking while hot lapping in practice but find it hard not to tense up in a league race. I need to keep reminding myself to stay relaxed.

Wow. Suellio and Random's video was groundbreaking for me. I have a T300rs and always had a hard time on corner exit . I would lose so much time. This lesson help me so much since I had a low-end wheel and not a lot of feedback. It was a retrain of the brain. Thanks to you, and Suellio and Random Callsign, this was the biggest thing that helped me so much in 10 years.

I'm really thankfull that we have people like Suellio, you and others in that community that share these helpfull advises. It's quite difficult for me to feel the difference between grabbing the wheel too hard and using the light hands technique in a propper way while having that low FFB that my wheelbase can offer, so i'll try that advise with dropping the 3 fingers off the wheel while braking, maybe it can help me a lot.

For some reason ,to me is more clear when the concepts from Suellio Almeida comes from someone other who understand and apply the concept for themselves. So, thanks for share your point of view lf the Suellio concepts!
@andreksjour
@andreksjour 2 ай бұрын
Suellio teaches mostly what he learns from others. The "light hands technique" came from one of his coaches i think. It's his interpretation of relaxing your hands and letting the wheel correct it self. There is a similar theory for motocycles too. In the end, when it comes to theory and concepts about driving, i found that everyone is saying the same thing, but differently. So it makes sense if you prefer someone else explain a concept. Another example would be Suellios "maximum rotation point", others call it "car apex", and its the same thing. I still bought the digital copy of Suellios book, and think it's good value.
