cherry plate mount stabilizer assembly and installation

In this video I show how to assemble and install cherry plate mount stabilizers. I also go through the steps needed to install the stabilizers if you have already soldered in your switches (you need to desolder, but only two switches).

Well sure, now that you can buy a pre-built keyboard which is better than you had to build yourself back in 2017. And at a small fraction of the price, even before you account for all the time you spent building your keyboard from scratch.

thanks much for the video. wasn't sure about the orientation of the insert (should slide freely in the housing), as well as the placement of the bar (in the lower of the two square holes on the insert...), and the satisfying snap when you get the bar in place was really helpful in getting this sorted for me!

Thank you so much for the video, I've been dreading buying any keyboard with plate mounted stabilizer because I was always under the impression that to take it out you have to desolder the entire keyboard. But now I realize we only need to desolder the switch with the stabilizer, which is A LOT less work. I plan to do the clip mod to make the Cherry stabilizer feel closer to Costar. Thanks again for the video. :)

Thank you! I spent more time on Google than usual to try to find a video that actually showed how to do this... as opposed to a video showing how to install stabilizers on, say, a pickup truck; there are a lot of those videos, even with "keyboard" in the search text for some reason. 🧐 There were also a few that were about keyboards but that just glossed over how to actually install the pieces of the stabilizer kit, step by step.

IDK if you're still responding to this video or not, but could you tell me why my stabilizers seem to always feel jammed? like I'm trying to install them and i can click them into the plate but the wire seems to be pretty much pressed to the plate. The key is stuck and I can't press it when it's attached. Is there some simple mistake I'm making that I'm overlooking? This same thing happened with PCB-mount stabilizers too...

Should I insert the wire into the bottom hole or the top hole? Is there any benefits of doing either one of those over the other.

bottom hole. it doesn't work properly in the top hole.

Damnit! I still have no idea how this works, I wish someone would make a really detailed picture or something, I still have never once replicated a successful stabilizer. Are there any that come with instructions?

Basically dude u just slide the wire into the housing and peg things and then press the bent part of the wire down against the housing where it’s supposed to sit and it’ll easily snap in. Ik that was months ago but I literally had this problem and figured it out as I’m typing this lol.
