Smart is the new sexy. In this talk, Kate Murphy argues that the key to the future is in intelligence and in making the world a better place; and what better way to do that than through chess?
Born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, Kate moved to Oslo in 2012, where she is now CEO at Play Magnus the company responsible for building digital products, partnerships and content for the World Chess Champion, Magnus Carlsen. Kate is an entrepreneur by heart. At the age of 23, she co-founded Canada’s largest national dance convention, iDance, featuring the stars from the TV show So You Think You Can Dance. When she wasn’t busy touring across the country, she completed her MBA. Following her studies, Kate moved to Norway where she spent her time consulting in the Norwegian business community, before taking the helm at Play Magnus. Her days are now focused on taking chess to the world to make it a smarter place - and practicing yoga.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Good talk. But at the 3:22 mark she shows a graphic of a chess board that is set up incorrectly! When you sit at a chess board the end square to your right should be light colored, not dark, as in the graphic.

The least you could have done was to give credit to the person you got your information from. The Big Chair.

Hi, I'm a talented young chess player and I enjoyed the initial 2 minutes of this video before she started with identity politics which totally turned me off I hate identity politics especially when people push such agendas into non political forums such as sports art music, or chess. if you want to be political give a political speech to a political party or something.

I didn't detect any identity politics in her talk whatsoever. It's a promotion of chess as a means to achieving success, with a tiny bit of commercial promotion of her brand. That's all.
