I think it's because his knight was kinda deep in enemy territory, so he didn't wanna lose it, I'm not sure though, I haven't really played through this game yet.

Gelfand won because he had more time on the clock and had Karjakin hopelessly checked. Is that right?

It was a Chekhover and when Gelfand played a6 instead of Nc6 it bcame a Maroczy version of a Najdorf Dragon....

actually no.. he barely took 2 - 3 seconds, just because he might been thinking: "dam i dont like this opening" or something.. A case that was much more impressive is from Anand 2700 rating and he took 1:24 out of 5 min in the semi finals only on the 4th move, look it up even commentaries were like OMG MOVEE

Julian Van Deyl He is losing his knight, after checking the king, trading rooks. And then Gelfand takes the knight with discovered check.

Steven Zhou Karjakin know what he doing. He prefers to give a tempo rather than going to the Najdorf where Gelfand is recognized as one of the specialists
