The Uncrowned King | Paul Keres vs Boris Spassky 1955

The great Estonian chess player Paul Keres has done something no one else has, namely beat the greatest number of World Chess Champions (9). Moreover, Keres has finished just shy of 1st place in the Candidates tournament not once, not twice, but 5 times! It's no wonder one of his nicknames became "The Uncrowned King". Paul Keres's opponent was Boris Spassky in this game from the 1955 Gothenburg Interzonal, held in Sweden. What Keres did to Spassky in this game out of a Queen's Indian Defense must have come as a great shock to the 10th World Chess Champion.

Here's the double bishop sacrifice game I referenced in this video. To those who give it a watch, notice the similar pawn structure that arises. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/na-CaZh-357ReIU.html

I like your insightful explanations of technical points that most other commentators would simply ignore. It shows you actually put in the time and effort to understand these games yourself instead of playing through the games once and telling us what the engine said.

Just to say - thanks and that as chess games, like anything else, give signature to the mind yet there are few minds which can be identified fairly easily by the style of play - Morphy’s is one and Keres’ another. There is a special tranquility identifiable in Keres’ play - it is almost always there.

Dude, I love your videos! You and agadmator are my favorites when it comes to chess. But I learn so much on your channel. You're doing a great job, because if I'm learning this much and if I alone am this more interested now in Chess, imagine how many people you are able to reach, teach and inspire, directly and indirectly. Thank you! I'll be using College's vacation to explore your videos and train my chess! Congratulations!

Thrilled to see you increase the frequency of your videos. It is a beautiful thing to see you analyze chess. I was not even aware of positional chess before you; I thought chess was all tactics and calculations. I enjoy the abstract nature of positional chess.

I don't even play chess, and I love these videos. Jerry never disappoints! Fun analysis, and great comments. The best part is after every quiz - where I inevitably choose the obvious but wrong move - Jerry's like "Here's why you're so bad at chess." My brain just doesn't work that way, and it's so fascinating!

because of the tactics involved. white doesnt really loose a queen since it will win blacks queen afterwards. so its more a exchange after which white wins, rather than a true sacrifice. if you wanna see a real queen sacrifice, search "magnus carlsen sacrifices queen on move 10!"...

Good analysis Jerry, but I think the computer suggestion 10:24 and is not just eying up the g5 but to protect the knight in f6 from being captured by the rook , since the pawn in g7 is pinned .
