We have ALL experienced chest pain from time to time whether that is the result of indigestion, (GORD) or issues with the muscles or bones of our back or rib cage
However there is a myriad of different causes of chest pain, today we're setting out an overview of conditions and pathologies that can lead to chest pain.
In this latest A to Z of the NHS, as well as explaining how drinking flasks of bacteria can result in both a trip to the ITU, but also winning the Nobel Prize, we will also cover or touch on:

I know two people who miraculously survived heart attacks that most people don’t. One survived a “widow maker” heart attack thanks to the right people at the right time being on the emergency services who responded to his call and brought him directly to a cardiac team at the hospital trained in treating it, and the other passed out at the wheel nearly crashing into a church and was given chest compressions by a police officer who happened to be a block away and saved his life until he could be life flighted by helicopter to the hospital. Absolutely amazing sometimes how things just work out when other times everything goes against you.

Hey Dr Gill, very quick one. I’ve had Pneumonia twice in the last 8 years . Whenever there’s cold weather or even almost randomly at times, I have severe chest pain left sided. Stabbing sensation when inhaling and sometimes even when turning in an unnatural position i get what I can only describe as cramp in my chest. Any ideas what this could be? I’ve had x-rays and physical examinations but nothing has been diagnosed. I’m thinking scar tissue on my lung? But not going to diagnose myself!

how light is a low threshold? If you get light pain feeling like a very light bruise and lasting a few minutes, or a slight tightness in the chest.

Can vit deficiency cause this issues... I am also having chest pain and nerve pain since 2 months there is no medical explanation for the same according to the cardiologist and other doctors I have done endoscopy also ... Dr say it's anxiety. I tried meditation, breathing exercises ... But didn't help.... ... Can all these be a symptom of vitamin deficiency .... I'm having the feeling of lump in the throat since 2 days... Please reply..

Unecesseary supplemental oxygen can be detrimental in MI as it can cause paradoxically reduced coronary artery perfusion and lowers cardiac output. In our trust we only give oxygen to patients if they are hypoxic at ≤92% if they present with chest pain and an ischaemic ECG.

@@DrJamesGill I work prehospitally and it's not uncommon even now for consultants to question why a well saturated patient we have taken to PPCI hasn't got oxygen on. Think it's one of those things thats taken a little while to filter through into all medical settings. Keep up the brilliant content!

These videos are great, but I really shouldn't be watching them. I think that I am somewhat of a hypochondriac and these videos give me new stuff to worry over
