This is a welcome change on the chev. I replaced the cam belt on my son's 1.4 corsa utility and to get the belt tension correct, it has to be done with the water pump.

Easiest way to line up correct replacement of belt to crank and camshaft is to spray some white paint onto toothed pulleys and adjacent plates etc before dismantling. Then put your own marks with permanent marker onto the pulley and cover plate. Check that they match exactly. Remove and replace belt lining up on your marks. No hunting for factory marks punch marks, pins etc. I have done this on many many cars without fail...

The "pointer of the tensioner" (or something like that) was not explained in the video. I could not figure out what you're showing in the video when you twice showed the "pointer of the tensioner". Also how do I turn the engine?

Hi thanks for the insightful video, i have a Chev utility 1.8. I assume the process will be very similar, the only issue i have is finding the torque values for the crank gear/pulley bolt, timing belt tensioner bolt, water pump bolt. please advise and thanks in advance.

Hi Gary Do you have to remove the other wheels in order to access the cover that houses the timing belt? I'm trying remove the cover but there's a stubborn wheel (the crankshaft ring like wheel) doesn't want to come off, please assist

Im busy with a 1.8 sport 2014 model but is saying that the timing on crank and cam sensor is out it starts but running and missing killing the plugs plug is black should the cam on number 4 should it fase down or number 1 down and number 4 up

possibly the shudder is from the flywheel.New clutch kt and the flywheel needs to be skimmed

It is not recommended if it gets welded on skew it will unbalance the engine and break off again with dire consequences.

Hello Anele, Remove spark plug number one and turn the engine clockwise, when the piston is at its topmost position, the mark which lines up on the pulley is TDC (top dead center).

ou must check the selection levers/knobs that select where the air should go, the cables could be off or the pipes not on the air ducts

Is your water pump fine? I've seen one guy having to replace also the water pump because it caused the belt to break coz it was stuck and not rotating. So check that, and also check all your other moving components that are connected to the belt, if one of them jams that could be the cause.

You have to tap the thread one size bigger, Damian, you may need an engineer to do it if you do not have that skill and tools.

Hi Gary. I have one of these Chev utility bakkies. Cannot seem to fix the spongy brakes. Replaced pads discs, shoes and drums. Brakes bled out with new fluid. Brakes still spongy, peddle travels about halfway before brakes activate. Brake booster seems fine. Have you experienced this problem on the utility bakkie

Have you replaced or skimmed the discs, because if it has a ridge worn in it and one fits new pads, it will feel spongy for a while, also the adjustment of the rear shoes are very important and could also cause soft brakes.

Good morning... I have a problem with my Opel Corsa C/Gamma (Hatchback)... The bolt that locks/holds the crankshaft pulley keeps loosening up in time and messes up the sprocket and pulley. I have replaced the sprocket, pulley and timing kit many times but it keeps doing the same thing and looses timing. I don't know if the threads that holds that bold are messed up or what. Somebody was saying I should replace the crankshaft or take the car to engineering to retread the crankshaft. Do you guys have any idea what might be the problem and how to solve it?

It is a stretch bolt, Mokete, it must be replaced with a new one and also use locktite for extra insurance.

The timing will be either retard or over-advanced depending on which way it is out, there is no distributor to correct the timing, therefore the belt must be put on correctly.

Hello Samurai Duane, there is, unfortunately, no easy way, the cambelt must be removed, the backing cover has to be removed and then you have access to the thermostat housing, 2 bolts hold it down, the thermostat is moulded into the housing., good luck, wishing you an awesome 2021.Gary

It is best to remove the engine mount as it makes the job easier, there are various methods to loosen the crank pulley bolt, 1) remove the starter and jam a screwdriver between the flywheel's teeth to lock the engine. 2) use the engine cranking method once a breaker bar and appropriate socket is locked in place on the chassis. 3) use a power impact wrench and the appropriate socket.

Put the front pulley bolt back loosely, use a 19mm spanner and turn clockwise. Or put the car in 2nd gear, hand brake down and push the car forward slowly until the crank's marks line up then take the car out of gear and pull the hand rake up.

Tried that yesterday, even with someone pressing the brakes, but don't want to loosen (feels like it is little spring-loaded as the pulley still turns a little and jumps back when let go). I've put everything together, guess I will have to try find someone with air gun. I am nervous as I haven't done this before...

Got most of the other service tasks done, 1 - got stuck removing the rear hub to replace shoes, 2 - don't know where to drain / fill transmission oil and this 3 - this cam-belt issue... Feels good to have been able to achieve that much already :-) Your videos helped a lot!

As in the video, there is a dot on the cam gear and a groove in the plastic cover these 2 marks have to line up. 1:50 to 2:10
