Hello, and welcome to my KZfaq channel. Today's video is another vehicle repair episode. Two years ago, my Blazer did not want to engage into four-wheel drive. At that time, it turned out to be a faulty vacuum actuator for the front axle hubs. Now this year, I encountered the opposite problem the Blazer did not want to disengage from being in four-wheel drive. I found a broke vacuum hose underneath the vehicle and decided to update all the vacuum hoses related to the four-wheel drive operation. This video goes into detail all the vacuum hose locations and replacing the hoses. While I changed the vacuum hoses, I also decided to change the transfer case vacuum switch at the same time. I hope the video helps you out, and feel free to comment below, and check out my website that is a work in progress.

22mm on that vac switch (transfer case) wrench fits, dont bother with a socket. "Dots or paint " is a great idea. The switch has a "key" blank nipple, keep that at 12 o clock, youll be looking at a ln upside down triangle of the 3 nipples. Left goes up to the Y fitting + meets the transmission vent line, they go up onto the furewall to the "vented cap" line thst dead ends there (on furewall by oil fill.. right of the upside diwn triangle goes to the sctuator under the battery, and left goes up to engine vacuum. Thought id add those tidbits. Great video my friend!

appreciate people like you that make these vids - we had 6'' of snow last week & I got stuck before I could even start plowing - taking blazer to a buddy who's learning as he goes w/this job ...didn't realize this system ran off of vacuum - I also notice a few people bypassing it all together & going w/a manual cable - all I know is I hope he can get it done soon

Indeed, the vacuum system was crude on these vehicles. In theory, by the late 1990s, General Motors should have had the technology to have used all electronic components but chose not to most likely to save money. I hope you were able to repair your Blazer. Thanks for watching.

We get it it goes under fender what about the rest of it ?. benefit of the doubt i kept watching. Thank the stars i did this is the most explanatory and visually shown video on the internet about these lines . Simply amazing instructional video . been struggling with this for weeks now but keep getting hoses in wrong spots and cant start engine. You are a great video mechanic maker. Thorough and showing all aspects of the system even the parts as you said that were good you still replaced and showed how to where all others skip right over stuff like that when sometimes that is someones exact problem. Very well done i will be checking for more vids and subscribing. ty ty ty .

It would really help if you would identify the year of the vehicle. Also there are two different 4wd systems on the blazer/jimmy. One has an auto 4wd bottom on the dash and the other does not. The have completely different vacuum routing and controls. Please identify which one you have. ( it’s the one without the auto 4wd button)

I don't see any issue with the hoses and vacuum lines, but the actuator that it is under the battery doen's do anything automatically... if I took off the hose and suck in it it works but it doesn't do anything in the gear... when the engine is off and I press the 4x4 button I hear that a little starter motor that it is on the main gear it turns on... but anything is moving! The vacuum lines could very well cause the rough idle. If you still have the rough idle after inspecting and replacing the vacuum lines, I would next check the everyday tune-up items such as spark plugs, wire, distributor cap, and fuel filter. Thank you for watching.

You will need 3/16, 1/4, and 5/16 inch hose in the repair. The most used is the 3/16 inch hose, and in total, I probably used around eight feet of 3/16. As for the 1/4 inch hose, all the vent hoses utilize the 1/4 inch, and in whole, around eight feet will get the job completed. Finally, you will need a foot of 5/16 for two short sections. One-piece comes directly from the transfer case before it adapts into 1/4 inch hose and one short section where the plastic vent tube exits by the transmission dipstick tube. I used 3/8 instead of 5/16, and it made for a loose fit, but I did not have any 5/16 available the day I worked on the Blazer. I ended up using hose clamps to make the 3/8 inch hose work because I did not feel like driving 20 miles to the store on a Saturday afternoon. I hope this helps you out, and thank you for watching.

@@MrAamstrom Well now I see that you used 3/16 instead of 5/32, 3/16 being just a hair bigger. 5/32 is what mine is from the transfer case to the tee by the cruise control module. Excellent video. You have now encouraged me to replace them all. All of them have tranny fluid due to the stuck transfer case switch. Thank you!

Thank you so much for the video, very helpful. I have to tackle this job. 4x4 not working, lines dry rotted and ripped. Prior owner rigged a bypass from actuator straight to the t for reservoir and vac system. Trying to correctly pick the spots for T connectors and what those goes where now. What year is this vehicle? I have a 2003 s10 4.3 and I do not see the connection of vacuum lines by the reservoir tank. I only see a T connector that holds a line to the engine then a line to the actuator then the line to the vac system. No lines hooked to reservoir port on the fender wall. Do I need to add a 2nd set of lines with a T connector connecting all?

The Blazer in the video is a 1998 model year. A few years ago, a friend had a 2000 Blazer, and it also had the same setup. All you should have to do is look and see if you have the vacuum tank. The tank sits flush with the fender, but you can still see the vacuum port. You will need the lines hooked to the reservoir tank or the four-wheel drive will loose vacuum going uphill. I hope this helps you out, and thank you for watching.

Are all 3 hoses coming from the pcv valve just breathers? Im having trouble figuring out which one is a vacuum line and which ones are vents
@MrAamstrom
@MrAamstrom 4 жыл бұрын
The hose's that are 3/16 inch are the vacuum lines. The 1/4 inch are the vent hoses. Another way to look at it the main vacuum starts at the engine goes over to the y or t connector and heads to the vacuum canister and back to the transfer case switch. Also the vacuum actuator under the battery tray goes back to the transfer case switch and is supplied with vacuum through the transfer case switch. At the transfer case switch two connections are 3/16 inch and are vacuum and the one 1/4 inch is for the vent.

Bought a 1999 Chevy blazer from a guy super cheap, $250… The guy tried replacing the vacuum lines not paying attention how the vacuum lines actually went. So it does not go into four-wheel as of now. Some how he has transmission fluid into the motor oil now. All I want this vehicle for is to pull a ice fishing house on a lake. I don’t care if it gets locked in 4x4 and stays. One purpose for this vehicle. So I have two options. Try to re-route the vacuum lines correctly or just install a push,pull, and lock cable. It runs good honestly but vacuum lines are completely messed up. So where did he mess up to cause transmission fluid to enter the motor oil? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, and thank you for your question. Faulty vacuum hoses are not a problem isolated to General Motors but all companies over the years. The rubber deteriorates due to engine heat and oil getting on them from leaking gaskets. That is why most modern vehicles have switched to electronic controls and depend less on vacuum to get the job done. The good news, although vacuum hoses do fail, they are cheap to replace and fix. On the other hand, when electronic components fail, the price to repair will increase.
