Driving an RWD car on snow/ice using a keyboard is basically self-punishment. A controller is good enough though.

It's not. It's still hard af even with wheel and if I might say, for me, it's harder on wheel depsite the fact that my times are faster with it. I've been playing on controller since the game came out and I had a blast playing it. The controller felt so good yet very hard. All playstyles are hard imo. It's up to you which one you'll choose and most importantly, which one you enjoy the most

....also, I need some advice...like you I use the button on the wheel for handbrake, but I either never seem to hold it enough and I don't slide, or I hold it too much and the car does a 180.....what am I doing wrong?

You don't do anything wrong, be easy on the handbrake and slow down in the corners. You can just look at IRL videos from Monaco for example and see how extremely careful they are on the icy parts :)

If you have a clutch but aren't super partial to it the just switch to manual H pattern then button map the clutch pedal as the e brake

Be smooth and give as little inputs to the steering as possible

tune the cars, all cars need to be tuned as they are poorly setup when stock, you can find tuning setups on KZfaq. If you have trouble cornering, use rear wheel drive as that layout has the best handling

Yup. I’ve never heard of a pro driver braking with left foot. Left foot is for clutch only.

There are some drivers irl who are using left foot brake. Most use it just to get the brake pad close to the disc, making the brake effective when approaching to the corner.
