I have one. As long as you properly inspect your purchase and make sure its from an owner who gave a damn about the car it can be a reliable daily driver. Stuff will break (its a 37 year old car at its max) but the aftermarket is huge and youll save a lot of money if you wrench yourself. Its a whole lot of car and you can get one for less than 10k for one in near showroom condition. I love these cars, and even though people love to hate on the C4, the corvette would never be what it is now without the breakthrough designs of the C4. After all, the C4 defined the shape of all corvettes to come (theres even touches of it in the c8 as well)

I drive one in Germany and everyone stares at me like NEVER BEFORE!!! Love this car - it's low price and beats many sport cars with his wide, flat body and a V8-Sound you rarely hear in Germany. I love my Corvette - thank you USA!!!
@jamescarson40878 жыл бұрын
+Klaus Wandelburg - Klaus, glad you enjoy your Corvette, I bet it really stands out on the Autobahn and gets the looks. I'm sure all most people see of it is the 4 rear tail lights! I have a 1991 ZR-1, (one of only 6900 made,) and at 25 years old it still can hold its own against the newer ones.
@klauswandelburg18458 жыл бұрын
+James Carson Hey James, the ZR-1 is a real dream car! You can't afford one in Germany, cause it's so damn rare. My girlfriend and I are going to take a trip to the states in september. My dream is to visit the National Corvette museum in Bowling Green, KY - the birthplace of our vettes ;-)
@jamescarson40878 жыл бұрын
+Klaus Wandelburg - Klaus, check out the ZR-1 Net Registry, it is a website dedicated to "Keeping the Legend Alive" www.zr1netregistry.com/ There is a Marketplace Section in the website that lists 1990 through 1995 ZR-1's that are for sale by owners in the US. I have seen prices range from $16,000 for a high mileage ZR-1 to $60,000 for a 1995 that only has 2,300 miles on it. The owners are all over the US,(Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Arizona), but if you are coming to the States, it might be worth contacting the owners and make a deal. Paying here and shipping to Europe might be cheaper than buying there in Germany. I hope you get a chance to go to the Corvette Museum, it is pilgrimage every 'Vette lover should make!

Hey James! I visited the museum last year and it was awesome!!! This year I bought a 75 Corvette Stingray and will drive it in September with my american friend through Michigan. At the and of the journey I'll ship it home to Germany. Hope you're doing fine, waving from Germany!

The Doug Nash 4+3 Transmission in those Corvettes had 4 forward gears and in gears 2-4 an additional overdrive could be selected by a button on the gear shift lever. So you had basically 7 gear ratios. The overdrive was computer activated and deactivated. A "shift light" is also part of the system that recommends upshift under certain conditions. It has nothing to do with emissions and you can burn all the gas you want with it. But you CAN achieve better fuel economy if you would like to.

It is a shame those model years were so problematic. Sadly In the first 11 months the dealer had it more than I did. Sold it after having it for 11 months and got what I paid for it after driving it for 10,000 miles.

@vettenut08 - At least one still exists in the National Corvette Museum. They made 43, IIRC, as pilot production and press long-lead cars. The reason the 84 was designated such, by the time GM did get them to dealers, it was March 83. The car met all standards for 84, so they did that so they wouldn't have to deal with a short model year. as it is, the long model year is #2 in sales, with 1979 being #1.

@jvarela965 I have a 1984 z51. While I don't argue your point the '84 had a couple things going for it. It had the stiffest suspension ever put under a vette and with the z51 package it has a racing steering ratio. Just two turns lock to lock versus 3.5 turns for standard steering. Also it came with positraction. Those things make the car like a big go cart. With an upgraded power train it is some serious fun!
