2012 and up Chevrolet Engine’s 1.4L Turbo Engine Knock with Knock sensor fault code Troubleshooting. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPLACE PARTS IF UNDER QUALIFIED. TIMING CHAIN AND CAMSHAFT MUST BE REMOVED TO REPLACE PARTS. But to check the issue. Simply take off the valve cover and check tightness/ clearance of any suspicious valve lifters. They should NOT budge with your finger. If they do, they’re loose!

On my 2011 Chevrolet Cruze 2.0 Diesel there is a noisy sound during cold start but when the engine is much warmer then that noise during cold start disappears. But though the noise still exist during when the AC is on.

I’m also from Ontario, just bought one of these noticed the valve noise was a bit loud when I test drove it but was told by friends that’s just the way these turbo 4 cylinders sound. Now my first day driving it I beat on it a bit I got home and noticed she was ticking pretty bad. I guess I’ll have to rip off the valve cover and see what I got myself into.

I have a 2014 cruze, about 150,000 km on it. Recently the ticking got louder, engine light is on and it now has very inconsistent or sluggish acceleration. Took it to a dealer and they did the plugs and a fuel induction service. They were getting a P0300 and P0324 codes indicating cylinder 1 and 4 misfires. The dealer suggested the knock sensor be replaced if their repairs didnt solve the problem, so i replaced it. I have a feeling this is a more serious and expensive fix than expected. Any thoughts from your experience?

Gentlemen , My friend has a 2013 Cruze turbo . It has a weird knocking noise around the valve cover /possibly camshaft area . It only makes that sound when the AC is running . Once you turn the ac off the engine sound perfectly quiet . No lights drives great . I can't find any common / shared circuits between ac and the knocking sound. Am i missing something ? Any help is much appreciated!

The lifter noise is usually pretty present with or without the ac on. AC when on adds quite a bit of load, especially on smaller engines so there could be another issue causing the noise, belt tensioner may be noisy the AC compressor itself may be noisy, the engine may not be handling the load of the AC well, injectors may be ticking under higher load or possible weak spark under load so check plugs and the big coil pack. But it wouldn’t condemn the lifters under just that circumstance. Good luck 👍.

Update! Valve lifters did correct the problem, I replaced all of them intake and exhaust. The dealer sells them in sets of each side, surprisingly not very expensive for the parts, but a good amount of labour 👍

Hello, I have the same problem, I replaced the timing chain with tensioner and guides, because of course they were bad, but the knock is still there, the car drives perfectly fine now, but the knock is there, I know that the problem are this lifters because I can move them the the fingers, but I can’t find no video how to replace them. Do you have any video of those being replaced?

@FishHONtopBiz
@FishHONtopBiz Жыл бұрын
These turbos crack on the hot wheel(exhaust) side right along the dump valve. Causing a lack of boost, most people replace the turbo( can be expensive) or if you know a good mechanic with a welder they can remove the turbo and weld the crack. I’ve done that fix before but it take some finesse with a welder. It’s a tight spot. Anyhow good luck.

Hey man I’m working on my girlfriends 2013 Chevy Cruze it has more of a tick then a knock noise there’s no engine light but I can hear a pretty loud tick a little further up on the engine from where you where showing here so I was wondering what it could be I clearly know nothing about this car lol….

Lifter noise is pretty top end and they vary from being a loud tick and a slight knock. But I would get a good mechanic to verify that yourself, since I have no way of hearing your car. But like in my video I explain how it’s quite easy to check the lifters. Good luck 👍

Depends where you live. I’m shopped in Ontario Canada, mind you I’m a small independent shop that’s way under any dealer rates but I ball park the job with parts, labour and fluids around $800 -$1000 Canadian depending on the parts they want and if they want new timing chain kit, plugs, valve cover etc while I’m in there.
@michaelmorrow9927

curious if you replaced that and it fixed the issue. also wondering if you can replace that with just taking off the valve cover and not tearing it all down. I am asking because i took mine to the dealer, without really looking dude was like its a collapsed lifter " i have same exact issue code for #3 with knock sensor code" will cost 11, 000 for a rebuilt motor lol. i was like dude i can by one of these with no engine issues for 6,000.. i would rather not tear down the entire engine as that is a lot of work and i live in an apartment complex. if that little booger can be replaced from the top can do np.
@FishHONtopBiz
@FishHONtopBiz 11 ай бұрын
In my updated comment I did in fact say it corrected the issue of noise and the knock sensor code. Your dealer is trying to make the most off of you, no surprises. Find a mechanic who is familiar with timing chain jobs and they should be able to replace the lifters no problem. But no you cannot replace them without the camshafts being fully removed. I’d save the time myself and do it that way if I could, but unfortunately it cannot be done with just taking the valve cover and removing them. Much more needs to be removed to access them. Good luck 👍.

Mine is not a turbo, other problems over time. Since the thermostat/housing was replaced, the water does not get hot. You know how you can't take of the water cap when a car has been driven, unless you want your eyeballs washed in scalding hot water? Mine does not. Not have a little. Yet it has been driven Dailey. Actually my girls are in there 20s and both their rides are down. Therefore it hardly ever stops. Idk what it means but when I realized this, it probably had 2000 miles put on it since. Still, it burns the road up. I have even had to add water. Thought?
@FishHONtopBiz
@FishHONtopBiz Жыл бұрын
I’m a little confused at this so I’ll ask some questions in return to clarify. Just because the cap isn’t pressurized doesn’t mean the coolant won’t get hot, are the hoses cold when it’s running all the time or is their just no pressure on the cap when you take it off? Pressure is built up by the water pump and the system being sealed, there may be a small leak, possibly cracked on the bottom of the reservoir they’re common on cruze’s or somewhere else, or the water pump is not pumping/ producing pressure. Does the car have heat when you turn the heat on? Does the engine overheat after driving awhile? Are you just adding water or properly mixed coolant? Was the coolant system bled properly after the thermostat was changed?

Trotzdem, gute, informative Videos, weiter so, Danke

They pull out from where there seated in to. I usually use a good set of standard plier and grab the top of them and pull them up. There in there pretty snug but they will pull out that way.

@@someoneyoumightknow2805 for all intents it acts like there's a vacuum leak. I've sprayed it with brake cleaner and can't find one. Have to shift it manually but I'm babying the hell out it. Shifting @35-3800rpm. I really want to get some REAL gauges on it. The diagnostic machine says everything is "within spec". I ABSOFREAKINGLUTLY HATE COMPUTERS on mechanical devices. So much easier to find issues when you don't have 6 different sensors giving 6 different options.

100% chevy fault. They say change oil at 20%. It had hydraulic lifters. The lifters fill with oil. The oil sits there. Turns into tar. So your timing is off. Its why you blow out seals.
