the Chevy 2500 6.6L Duramax Diesel L5P number 1 issues/problem is the MAP sensor getting clogged and causing your Duramax diesel engine to run poorly and most importantly cause the Duramax to lose power. I explain as a heavy duty mechanic how to fix this issues easily and quickly as well as explain how this simple fix can gain you back lots horsepower to your Duramax Diesel.
FULL Duramax Review - • Chevy 2500 6.6 Duramax...

I hope everyone is having a great holiday season! I really wanted to touch on this single point about the Duramax diesel #1 issue because I think I missed a really good little bit of info when it came to real power loss from a clogged up MAP sensor.
What happens is the MAP sensor or the absolute manifold pressure sensor gets clogged up with soot from the EGR and therefore can no longer read correctly not allowed the engine to know how much air or oxygen is going into the engine. this mean that your duramax Diesel engine is not going to be running at peak performance.
now when I drove this chevy 2500 Diesel after I cleaned up the sensor it was very noticable the power gain that happened. the truck was much more responsive. the turbo boost felt much stronger and in general the truck felt like it had gain some horse power.
I also give into how to clean the sensor, the location of the map sensor on the duramax diesel engine and how to remove and install the map sensor.
so if you guys think your duramax diesel is feeling a little slow and you want to make it faster with more power. check that map sensor to see if it's getting clogged.
anyways guys I hope you have a good rest of the holidays!

A big "Thank you" from North Carolina....I work for a petroleum company and my work truck is a '21 3500 Duramax utility bed. She's tipping the scales at almost 14k lbs with just my tools. I'm always pulling heavy loads with her. Popped my MAP sensor out and it looked identical to the one you cleaned out on the previous video. I'm pretty excited to run her, come Tues morning 😁

Actually helpful information. Not a sales pitch for a sponsor. Thank you. I own 2019 it’s my first diesel. I love it and I will pop the map sensor and take a look. Thanks again.

Thank you for doing this video. I have a 2018 GMC HD with 80,000 Km on it. Until I came across your video, I had no idea that this was a maintenance issue. I pulled my sensor and sure enough it was covered in soot. After cleaning and reinstalling my engine seems to running better. I looked through the GMC Diesel supplement manual and there is nothing in the maintenance guide that suggests that this should be looked at. A big fail by GM if you ask me. Maybe they want this part to fail so you have to come in for an expensive fix. Anyway, 2 thumbs up.👍👍

Pulled the sensor on my 2019 with 38K miles and it looked like yours. Cleaned it up and the truck runs much better. Thanks for the tip!

Once it is cleaned properly the little bulb is actually a blue colour. Also it’s best to clean it in the position that it sits in. This helps not to blow crud etc up into the electrical area.

Another excellent video Alex. I really like that you offer a solution that just about any owner can do. I’m a Cummins owner, but I’m sure all L5P Duramax owners can benefit from your video. All these modern trucks are excellent machines. Keep up the great work. Merry Christmas!

Great video. I cleaned my sensor today as you described. Engine immediately threw trouble code #P00EB. I drove the truck for about 10 miles at highway speeds and the trouble code went away. The engine is running much better since!

Thank you! My 2021 Duramax had not had any issues but at 80,000km I figured after watching this, I should at least give it a go. There was so much soot accumulated inside that sensor I literally thought there was some kind of material/part inside that I had to work around. $15 at AutoZone for the right spray and a good soaking and everything dissolved away. Fired up and apparently I didn’t break anything. No codes…. Taking her out on the highway tomorrow and I’m guessing my pedal will feel a little more reactive after this! Thanks!

So the MAP sensor dirty should cause poor mileage as well right? So if it’s never been cleaned or changed at 200k miles, now would be a good time? I’m still trying to learn how to drive mine for max power and mileage, you can’t hear the engine or exhaust at all so I never know what gear I’m n or how well it’s doing unless I watch the MPg screen. New diesels and all the restrictions on them are terrible. If you use a EDT additive of some kind will it keep the MAP cleaner?

GM technical bulletin indicates that a plugged TMAP on the Duramax is nothing to worry about. When you read the forums and see what the TMAP sensors look like in all kinds of L5P engines, it's quite apparent they can be totally plugged and not affect a thing. Hard to believe, but it's pretty much the norm.

GM Bulletin No.: 20-NA-043: Due to the sensitivity of the sensor, Do Not use any chemical cleaners including water and Do Not use compressed air to remove contaminates. Important: If sensor is covered in soot, this should not prevent the sensor from functioning properly and it should not be replaced. Do not attempt to clean soot off the sensor. This could cause damage to the Thermistor
