This video walks you through pressure testing the cooling system on the GM LUV, LUJ, and A14NET 1.4L turbo engine. Pressure testing helps find external leaks that are otherwise hard to track down.
This video applies to the following vehicles with the GM 1.4L Turbo LUJ/LUV/A14NET Engine:
2011-2016 Limited 1.4L Cruze
2011-2018 Chevy Sonic/Aveo
2015+ Chevy Trax
2015+ Buick Encore
2011+ Opel/Vauxhall Corsa (Turbo only)
2009+ Opel/Vauxhall Astra J (Turbo only)
2010+ Opel/Vauxhall Meriva B
2011+ Opel/Vauxhall Zafira Tourer
To order the boost/coolant leak test kit, go to:
order it on www.cruzekits.com
Note: The CruzeKits.com site is new so it may not load the first time you go to the site; if the link doesn't work, hit it a second time and it should show up.

I got a 13 sonic rs, you been helping me alot with your videos and forum posts. Just did a modified version on your v2 pvc fix kit. Pcv failure caused alot of issues with my car. 3 engines and 2 turbos within powertrain warranty, now outta power train and turbo might possibly be going out but trying everything before i replace the turbo, can hear it spool but definite lack of power, gonna be looking at the wastegate actuator next. Much love and keep up the videos and tinkering. Love the home brew ingenuity.

Great videos! Dealing with an 11 cruze throwing low boost and and PVC codes. Been watching your vids and building a boost leak tester do try and track down the problem. Question/suggestion on this video specifically. Couldn't you just crack the ball valve to drain the pressure instead of loosening the cap? Thanks again for the great videos regarding the cruze.

thanx for all the info you have put on here Dre Dan. i have a question about the chevy cruze. i am not a mechanic, my 2012 cruze 1.4 turbo runs hot without the cabin heat on. its operating temp goes to 238-239 F degrees. high fan kicks on at 234-235 degrees. thermostat opens up n takes the temp down to 220 F degrees then back up to 238-239 F degrees. i have changed out the thermostat, both temp sensors. i read on a forum that the cruze does run hotter than designed, but is there anything i can do besides turning on the heater in the cabin. when i do turn on the heater the temp drops down to around 200 F degrees. i have no clue besides thinking the water pump? coolant level is rite where it needs to be, no leaks. no smoke coming out of exhaust. thank you ahead of time if you or anyone has any ideas.

@@AndreiDPop thx for the reply, yes bled radiator at the white plastic screw on radiator and kept cap off for 10-15 min with temp up to 200 F degrees ish. jus turned AC on full blast and fan did come on and there was cold air blowing out. everyone says normal operating temp is between 195 - 220 F degrees. but my temp is going to 239 F degrees with no cabin heater on. u said that temp is ok? how high would be not ok? without it over heating.

@@charlesx7604 That does seem a bit hot. It usually should run at 195-225F but I've seen it up to 235F on my car before during highway cruising, for fuel economy.

Hi, could u help me because when im in 3rd gear and get to about 4 to 4.5 k rpm my turbo and all the boost just stops and when i downshift or do annything i have no boost. Then when i turn the car off and back on again it works fine untill i floor it in 3rd gear or 4th. I saw some guy hade the same issue so he changed the map sensor. I have an opel astra j 1.4t tho with about 210 hp but do you know what the problem might be? I bought the map sensor so i will change that.

Hey Andre. I could really use your knowledge brotha. My 2012 eco cruze has been making this weird noise that I can't really hear until I raise rpms. It's there then its not and so on. It's like a belt squeak/metallic rotational noise? I don't have the money to have someone do all the things ya know and I'm kind of at a loss here. What you think it could be?

My 2014 Chevy Cruze turbo its not working . I do have a coolant leak on water outlet where the rings are. Is that causing a P0299 code coming up and also a turbo malfunctioning? Can I please have your opinion about it . I’m not familiar with turbos.
@AndreiDPop
@AndreiDPop 3 жыл бұрын
Fix the coolant leak first. P0299 is an underboost code. Check the intake manifold for a missing check valve first; my pcv fix kit would address that part. Replacing the turbo should be a last resort. I have a video on the p0299 code as well.

Hey Dre Dan, could you explain why the level goes down in your reservoir when you pressure it, but then it rises back to the original level when you release the valve? I thought the coolant was incompressible so don’t know why it goes down under pressure. Or is it going somewhere?

Thank you for this video. I ended up building the boost pressure tester, but had a bad diaphragm in the valve cover. In attempts to not go buy a new valve cover right away I put jb weld on the vent hole and added a spare check valve I had to it, which works to keep it from acting as a vacuum. But for the boost test the air pressure comes out of that check valve point. Do you know if factory diaphragm on the valve cover has a certain cracking pressure for it to vent, and what it might be?
@AndreiDPop
@AndreiDPop 3 жыл бұрын
DO NOT block that vent!! You will apply too much vacuum to the crankcase and will blow the front main seal! That valve cover contains a vacuum regulator diaphragm, not a check valve. The check valve is in the intake manifold (that's what my pcv fix kit addresses).
@luckyman992004
@luckyman992004 3 жыл бұрын
@@AndreiDPop I have installed your check valve kit on my vehicle, which I am also greatful for. The way in which I installed my check valve on the valve cover though was so that it doesn't suck in, and then lets the cover vent to keep it from building up too much pressure. I know that with just a plain check valve like that it won't build the adequate boost pressure it needs, which is where my question came in as to if you knew what the original valve cover diaphragm cracking pressure was. (In other words, at what amount of crankcase pressure does that diaphragm open to start relieving pressure?)
@AndreiDPop
@AndreiDPop 3 жыл бұрын
@@luckyman992004 it's not a cracking pressure because it's not a check valve. It's a vacuum regulator diaphragm. It is spring loaded and applies 11-18 in-wc (inches of water) vacuum. It must work correctly or you will have excess vacuum on the crankcase. If the valve cover failed, you need to replace it. It is not there to relieve any pressure. The vent simply exists to allow the diaphragm to flex freely without having an "air spring" behind it. The pcv gas will vent through the pcv pipe into the turbo inlet if there's ever any positive pressure.

Needed to make sure my fuel trims were accurate when I went with the GTX turbo, bigger injectors, etc. Needed a good baseline and I found it actually dropped IATs over my K&N intake with an Injen filter so I just sold that and kept the stock airbox.
