Keep sharing this video,,, would be nice to draw enough attention for #chevrolet to own up to this bad design & issue a recall to cover time and material to repair. This is a safety issue when driving in adverse weather conditions. And is a very expensive fix.....

@RyanMetz2 ай бұрын
@@palsnewfoundlandchannel3589 No, every few months I have to do this again. My thought would maybe put some putty on the end of the stick, the jam it in the gears to kinda block it maybe. I saw another vid a guy jammed it using a golf-t but i cant get far enough in for that.

Live in north iowa where it’s winter pretty much 5 months out of the year and it’s so nice that I didn’t have to take the whole dash apart I was dreading that to my core

My 2012 Cruze Eco had this problem, too -- the little nylon gear snapped one super cold (like -10F) morning and fell onto my feet when I started the car and the blend door auto-cycled itself. I used a long, flat-bladed screwdriver to turn the gear. Eventually, though, it would turn back on its own, and air wouldn't be directed toward the windshield. I "fixed" this by screwing a 2-1/2" or 3" decking screw in in such a way that it wedged between the little gear and some other plastic beside it. Hasn't moved since, in over a year. This silly gear should never have broken, but if it did, GM should have designed the HVAC system in a "fail-safe" manner so that the blend door would direct air to the windshield if/when it fails, since that can be a serious safety issue in a winter snow/sleet storm. My Cruze has 260k on it so isn't really worth the money to fix this stupid problem the right way, but this works good enough for me.

Mine went out at the beginning of this extreme Wisconsin winter! Didn't see the quick fix but luckily kept her in the garage so it wasn't too bad. Gonna have the hubby change it himself and save $500+. Just had a valve cover and intake manifold replaced for $900 at dealership. This thing is starting to cost a lot.

Did you fix it yet ?
@jeronbennett45632 жыл бұрын
@@alejandroibarra6433 I had to do a temporary fix. I live in Canada and it got cold so one of the gears in the system snapped. The gear which he was moving in the video would fall back and default to blowing through the front. In the end I got my hands in there and wrapped a stiff wire around the gear which switched the air back and forth. There was a small metal plate towards the wheel that I then latched the wire to so the tension would keep it from falling back to the face. I'll need to go back in and take the wire off to get AC in the summer.

It should definitely be a recall. I live in MI where I get off work around the early hours of the morning and my car has the morning dew all over it. One day I cut the defrost on and zero heat. just stopped working out of the blue.

You will probably encounter the same issue I did after driving about 30 miles.... just the road vibration makes that little gear migrate back to its original position.... to counter this I have placed a zip tie around it.... with the tail of the zip tie testing against the motor gear stop ( the big gear) I used a pair of long 90* needle nose pliers and every curse word I know 😂 to get it on there. 100 miles later.... still holding position.

Had the same problem with mine this video was extremely helpful for me. If your arms are small enough you can actually replace the price that’s broken running between the two gears. It’s gm part number 13263335 they did remaufacture it to where it doesn’t fail anymore. The bro lemme wasn’t it stripping as much as a bad design causing the teach to break off all in one piece. Hope this helps someone not spend the money on the actuator and gears together.
