I also don’t like floppy leathers for notebook covers. Maybe for gloves 😊. The Harry cover is nice. Wish they would make regular passport size again. Thanks for sharing your unboxing. Very enlightening.

Same, I can't get the floppy cover to work. Luckily now I found a few other leather shops that produce amazing covers. I am going to order from them!

I would if I wasn't too busy 🙈 I think their mystery box was about getting rid of what's not sold regardless of the condition 😅

@@cheesim That is exactly it...and why I never purchase "mystery boxes" any more from anyone, it is exactly a way for the owner to get rid of excess unsold unpopular inventory😅

Not usually for other companies. There are companies provide good quality products in a mystery box to attract new customers. Unfortunately not with Chic Sparrow 😅

I totally understand what you mean about the floppy one, which I also got in my mystery box... but now I love mine. For me it was a matter of using it over time. It now actually feels good to use it, in all of its floppy-weirdness. :) I hope you grow to like yours too.

The only way it could work is to find a perfect notebook with a perfect thickness, and that just feels like too much work 😅 I have collected journals for years and so far I haven't been able to find one that would work with this cover 😥

@@cheesim I definitely get what you’re saying. For mine, literally the same (red, huge, floppy), it only became pleasant when I maxed out the capacity with four A5 notebooks of different paper types. The shape holds together well enough and now it’s just a giant ink testing compendium, lol.

I just found your review. I thought the passport size and the B6 size were very nice. The A5 red notebook was very problematic. Did you keep it? If so, did you ice it? The only thing I would think to do with a leather that floppy would be to remove the strings and use it folio style over a structured hardcover book. Thank you for sharing. I hope you were able to get some use from your purchases. $200 is still a lot of money, even though you received four items.

Yes the smaller ones are great! Unfortunately I am keeping the red one because I don't feel great selling it to somebody. If I am making notebook cover, that's not something I would sell. I learned my lesson and if I purchase again I won't be buying mystery box from them for sure 😂

Hahaha wow thanks for sharing! I actually really like your mystery box items! I ordered two of them recently and don't like any of it T^T I especially LOVE the passport plus and the pen case you got!

You ordered 2 mystery boxes and did like any of the items??😱 What did you get? Nothing good? The two smaller ones in my box are definitely usable. I have to figure out a way to fix the A5 one 😅

I think Chic Sparrow is overpriced. Some are nice, but I wouldn’t risk my money on a mystery box.

I absolutely live the brown journal covers. But that red one looks like a fail which is unfortunate because it is a beautiful red. Ive never heard of this company. Will definitely have to check them out.

I would suggest to get what you want instead of a mystery box, because you may end up having a nearly unusable item 😅 I definitely learned my lesson with them 😆

Hi Chee. Great review. I own a lot of Chic Sparrow and the red Orient is one I did not buy because I was concerned about the quality of the leather. I think it’s better to pay money for a cover you will enjoy. This is why I haven’t purchased from the new Mystery Box. I feel like I won’t get what I will enjoy. They had old mystery sales that were much cheaper. This is very expensive to me to not be happy. I’m sure someone will buy the red one. I like the cover but not the floppiness. Hope you can sell it to recover some of your money or you can also look for trade.

I agree with you, often it’s better to get what you want rather than take a risk. Mystery box is an experience, sometimes I got lucky, and sometimes not so much 😂 At least I get to show my experience to you all, so that others will make a better decision before purchasing. I do have many great mystery box experiences from other companies. Sometimes companies use mystery box to entice new customers and build a long term client relationship. And then you will also get companies that simply take the opportunity to get rid of problematic products they have. I wish there are more Chic Sparrows mystery box unboxing videos out there, so that I could make a wiser decision. I have learned my lesson for sure 😆

Oh wow that’s too disappointing about the red one. It’s really a great color. That’s exciting about the mystery box but not have a poorly made product. Maybe you can take to shoe repair place and make it a pouch or have it reinforce with more leather. The leather is great just not for the notebooks. I have one of their passport size journals. I don’t use it often but I like it. Tfs 🥰🙏🏾💗

Thanks for watching Robin, the leather is gorgeous, just not suitable for journal cover. I would love it more if they just sent me a pouch in that leather 🤣 I was planning to buy more journals, but based on the response I received from them, it seems they knew what they were sending out. They didn't even ask me how bad, tell me a possible fix or wanted me to share pictures to give them a better idea on the situation 😥

Thin leathers are definitely usable as covers and the floppiness comes down to personal preference. I have some floppier leathers that I only use when I have at least 3 notebooks inside because you won’t get buckling in the spine. You need tension on all the strings, not just one. For the amount of money you’re spending on Chic Sparrow product I definitely don’t recommend a mystery box as a first time customer, I recommend watching some youtube videos to see what type of leather would suit your needs. Chic Sparrow has had too many limited editions and phased out leather types that Mystery Boxes end up being made up of what didn’t sell and wasn’t popular, or prototype leathers that are one of a kind items. It’s not their top sellers and part of the reason why I wouldn’t buy one.

I agree that first-time buyers probably shouldn't buy a mystery box from Chic Sparrow. 🙈 Hopefully, other potential first-time buyers don't repeat my mistake. I am afraid even if I had multiple ones, it is not likely for me to do mystery boxes with them because of potentially getting items that are too challenging to work with. 😅I need a cover that works so I don't have to fiddle with it. Regarding the A5 cover I received, unfortunately, it is not a personal preference. My preference would be for it to work. 😅 I have tried using 3 journals, but the top and bottom of the spine area are too soft, thin, and worn. They couldn't hold ANY tension and constantly tried to bundle up. I tried to loosen the tension, but the journal wouldn't stay in place. 😥 I talked to customer service, and she told me it is NORMAL to bundle up. I have bought many journals covers from other companies, and none ever did that. A bundled-up, collapsing journal cover is definitely not my preference 🤣
