I've only ben watching since '96, but I can say that I saw MJ get lots of phantom fouls when I watched. Still one of the best ever though.

James Brown Ill put it to you this way. Jordan could literally slap the hand of the guy he was guarding (you could hear I) and nothing got called. Then he comes down on offense and someone even as much as breathes on him and the foul is called. This garbage was going on since '88-89 and got worse as they started winning all those titles. You couldn't even tell the difference between reffed home games or road games for this team anymore. They got such bullshit calls that gave them ridiculous amounts of extra foul shots and other advantages it was just beyond believable. All because the Bulls were big market and Jordan was the nba's biggest name... The fans in certain places like the Cavs' at Richfield Coliseum, forinstance knew the score here and they booed his (and pippen's) asses out of that building everytime. They knew all the calls were going against their team even at home and costing them every game. Think to yourself how many of those games where Jordan buried somebody with a last second shot. Think to yourself how many times that would NEVER have happened if not for the countless overly biased calls (in Chicago's favor) that kept the game close all that time and set it up for the finish... If any of those games were called fairly (down the middle) the Bulls probably lose by double digits... No big shots, no championships. The nba was heavily fixed since 1988...

They were prime targets for Jordan's onslaught. To say that today's NBA is missing some soul, is an understatement. The league is completely player oriented, instead of team oriented. It's kind of a shame that star players switch teams so often. Instead of having a favorite team that you can be a die-hard fan of, for life, we are mostly relegated to simply rooting for our favorite players, regardless of what team they play on. (At least, that's what it has become, for me) Unfortunately, the NFL is moving that direction as well.

But the fact that Jordan possesses more natural skills and athletic abilities than Bird is what makes the flash so obvious and expectant, and his work ethic less visible to the average Joe. Jordan wows people, but their mind tells them, "Well, of course, he can do that; look at how athletic he is!" I could tell that he was the best player on the court, so he became my first favorite player.... Bird, and then Isaiah Thomas (myself being only 7, I absolutely loved that the smallest guy out there was such a beast) I didn't actually see Jordan play, until a couple years later... As you could imagine, my favorite player instantly changed after that. MJ really was a spectacle to witness. He never failed to impress. Really great memories
