8 year Chicago Lyft driver here. I live about 30 miles west of the city. Airport runs are my bread and butter. Props to Emmanuel for his experience. Yes surges are lower or gone, pay per ride is down... except. Lyft's estimated fares often are lower than the final payout because the algorithm hasn't yet adjusted to the massive construction on I-90 between O'Hare and downtown. More time=more money. On average it increases the payout by 20-40%, plus tips which are more frequent on airport runs. I average $25-35/hour. I drive M-F 6 hours a day.

It has become impossible to do those numbers now, not only because of the reduced prices of the rides but surges aren't even organic no more. Sometimes it is made just to get you in a area. You see it comes up and you then immediately go on line and it disappears when it detects you. The part that most drivers seem to miss for the cost of doing rideshare is the depreciation on the car, specifily wear and tear. Yes, its fantastic he made $3K / week, how many miles did he put on that luxury car to make that? How many years of life would be left on his car until he needs to buy a brand new car? Yes, I said brand new because that is the premium tier he is driving. A used car would not likely be acceptable and price difference negligible compared to a new car. An average car already costs $50 K, so if you are not being paid very well, you are going to lose money due to the depreciation.

in Florida? I need legal help about grubhub dropping me from being able to schedule anymore because for 1 night I received $30 for 3 hours I didn't receive any order requests. Next night I didn't log in the 3rd night I signed in picked up blocks and got orders I accepted all but 1 and good decent money with no grubhub contributions. Now, they sent me an email saying I took advantage of the minimum wage and can't access scheduling. I feel this goes against something. Or do I have no rights?

This is a prime example of how the flexibility of not having to punch a time clock and being able to set your own schedule and have the freedom to live a fuller life outside of Rideshare. Most w2s can never offer this kind of freedom. This gig work mostly benefits retirees and those who need a second income and set their own schedule.

The full time drivers are the most important drivers for the gig companies. Without them the companies go out of business in less than 24 hours. They do a vastly disproportionate share of the trips and yet the companies try to pretend they don't exist.
@clintsoutdooradventures
@clintsoutdooradventures Жыл бұрын
@@tuby6521 I'm sorry, I wasn't saying that full-time drivers weren't important, I was saying that most drivers are part-time drivers due to the flexibility the gig offers. Regardless of what percentage of drivers are full or part-time, only 3% of drivers who sign up to drive for Uber or Lyft are still driving for them a year later, only to be replaced with new drivers, and the business cycle continues. Wish you the best with your driving career. Be safe out there.

Sometimes you may have to put in 50 to 60 hours a week. It’s the choice of the driver. People that work in the oilfield industry work 70 hrs a week and make really good money but look how much work they have to do to make that money. So it depends on what you want to do. Yes it is wear and tear on your vehicle but it’s no different than buying a 18 wheeler and being a independent driver, either way you have to keep maintenance on your vehicles.

Beother the surge is still there. You can find that easily by talking to the customer. The only difference now is it goes to Uber or Lyft instead of going to the poor driver who puts all the efforts. It depends on where you are. I believe he means the drivers that are just jumping out here doing the bare minimum. Most of the Ubers I take out here in Columbus Ohio are super dirty and are rarely clean. That is one of those things that should be a given is to have a clean vehicle. Those drivers are lazy and don’t deserve to be on the platform flat out. And many drivers do complain instead of trying to figure out a solution.

@@Tru-Transportation Sergio can speak for himself, he doesn't need you to spin his comments. Forget about merely complaining, drivers should be protesting like crazy and contacting their representatives to demand an end to the exploitation. The pay rates and pay cuts are a disgrace and so are the outrageous cuts Uber and Lyft are grabbing. The fact that less than 10% of rides and deliveries are profitable for the drivers is all you need to know that drivers are being exploited. Whether a driver is "lazy" or a workaholic is irrelevant, ALL drivers should be paid a respectable wage, period.

Bro can you please interview someone who actually is killing it? Find guys making over $2k while working 40 hrs or less n not dudes who are working their lives away... Anyone with a simple plan of "I wont accept rides that pays me less than half of the dollar amount from the minute it takes for the ride ($20 minimum for 40 minute ride)" can make at least $30 an hr. Add more filters and you'll make $35-40 per. Work 70-80 hrs will get you $2800-3200. So yeah making $3k a week is awesome but not if he is just working his A off to get it. Teach me how to work smarter than I already am, not show me dudes who just worked harder!!

$2150 for 7 days per week at 70 hrs per week. That is $30.71 per hr gross. Now take out the cost of making that $2150. His net before taxes is around $16 to $18 per hour. Far less stressful to hold two minimum wage jobs and you would make about the same. Minimum wage in Chicago for employers with 4 to 20 employees is $15. If you get a job with tips you make a lot less per hr for minimum wage, but you make a lot more in tips. Driving this many hours is so bad for ones health. Uber and Lyft have it all figured out. The algorithm is set up so that a driver makes about the minimum wage. Uber and Lyft understand that so long as someone can make the same as minimum wage, they are likely to prefer to drive because of the elusion they are not obligated to go into a job at a certain hour. The truth of the matter is that as a driver you aren't your own boss. The algorithm is your daddy. It controls you. Wake up people. You are in a dead-end job. You are lowering your life expectancy by driving so many hours. I mean look at this dude. I'm not saying this to put the guy down, but if he doesn't lose all those pounds, he isn't going to be around to see his kids graduate high school. Uber and Lyft driving is a complete and total racket.
