You can also see Papa Bear unleashed in him when kids are deliberately put in danger, like Season 7 when a man followed their rig back to the firehouse because a child he wanted to kill had stowed away on it. I don't think I've ever seen Hermann so full of rage over someone wanting to hurt a child. It makes it cool that he's one of the few characters who's a parent because it gives a different perspective.

He does have 5 children and is a great father figure to all children,not only his one children but to the kids he saves.Hermann is amazing

I dare anybody to find somebody as good with kids as Hermann; he really calmed that guy down when he was panicking about his kid, because he’s speaking from experience on what it’s like to worry about your kid.

Herrmann is such a funny character, yet his courage braving the fire is second to none. He, Cruz, and Severide are my favorite characters, though Shay was another favorite. David Eigenberg is a great choice for Herrmann. The other actors give him a hard time (though playfully), saying he's most likely to start a fire and steal their lunch (even he admits to nabbing their food).

Broken cases are Hermann's weakness . He's the firefighter that has seen so much in his time that when a broken case comes he takes in very internally personal like it's his own.

If I remember correctly the baby did die later in hospital, the father was a drug addict who caused the fire by negligence. Herrmann took it badly.
