I was contacted back in 2019 about this 1969 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible. It had been sitting in the garage since 1979. The owner allowed me to go around and document the car. Like most other barn finds, it was in much better shape being out of the weather. It had 100,000 miles on the odometer, and for being a Chicago car, it wasn't that bad.

I'd sell the Vette to get the Olds back on the road if they were mine; way too many Corvettes out there, don't need any more.

Nice looking Oldsmobile 442, I wonder if the miles was why it was parked? I gotta clean my shop myself I can't walk through it hardly.

I got a 69 coupe in a 68 coupe Olds Cutlasses. I got a third one that says 1968 442 coupe. Summer back in the mid-to-late eighties some fool made dirt track car out of it. A rust free western car!! It makes for a good conversation piece 🧩 . I'd rather had the 442 convertible than the vet. Me and your green car looking great and with the new lighting it would appear to me on video that it's even sharper and crispr

About the most bland 442 I have seen. No shame if the next owner scores a Ram air hood and a spoiler. Which is a safe bet to happen.

@ Silver Star On the other hand, that bright yellow was an attention getter, & could be why it got painted green; nice & sedate, blended in a lot better. And really that shade of green is better looking than most of the lighter shades.

With the automatic transmission it's no longer a 442 olds lost touch of it's beginnings

No they did not. Although the 1964 442's were all 4 speeds, (4 speed, 4 barrel, 2 exhaust) automatics were offered starting in 1965 and first year for the big blocks (400, 4 barrel, 2 exhaust). Oldsmobile decided to keep the name '442' for their high performance version 'A' bodies. Starting in model year 1968, the 442 had its own VIN number, stating that it is a true 442 and not a Cutlass or F-85. So the featured car is a true 442. Now, if what you mean by "lost touch with its beginnings" that Olds put automatics in their 442's, that's a personal opinion. They were 442's regardless of transmission type.

@@suzukiltz8902 Yes there is. There are two separate blocks for Oldsmobiles. The 330, 350 and 403 share one narrower block, and the 400, 425 and 455 share a wider block. Pontiacs all have the same block but different bore/stroke combinations. Not familiar with Buicks so I cannot comment on them.

coming from a diehard olds guy, i dont care what the purest fruit cakes say. yes, technically its pronounced fOurr FourR TwoOooo... but that just sounds stupid, 44D2 rolls of the lounge, and actually sounds like a name. not only that but it brings me great pleasure that it offends the purest fruits. just think how stupid a 240sx would sound if it was said two four zero sx, or a 300 D was three zero zero D. even better yet, i love when 2 old people argue about what 442 stands for because they are both right. those same people will deny they ever made a 442 in 1990.

In 1964 it was 4-speed, 4- barrel, and dual exhaust. In 1965 it was 400 cid, 4 barrel, and dual exhaust.

@@AutoArchaeologylisten i don't know where u get ur olds knowledge from but this car is a cutlass not a 442! If it was a real 442 the first 3 on the vin tag would b 344!!! Not 336! 336 is a cutlass number don't argue just do a little research very simple. Every 442 from 69 to 71 had 344 to start vin. In 72 442 went back 2 n option package on a cutlass the only real true 72 442 would b the w30 which in 72 u can verify by an x in the vin bottom line. Ur Chicago convertible is a cutlass 100%
