Sounds like a huge lawsuit, how can you do that to people, the elderly?! The building owner should be responsible for relocation, pay rent and the security deposit for the next home and that’s before pain and suffering they should be compensated beyond question.

If the community was not warned, they should be charged with false imprisonment. If they found shelter, hotels for illegals they should be able to find shelter for them. It's still over 3,000 homeless in Chicago. It's cold out here. 😢

They had about a month. Cobdemnation in most places requires a 24 hour notice for vacancy. I would have evicted them a long time ago to fix the property up. You can’t do that much work with people in the units. None the less I would have sold this crap a long time ago and I never accept section 8

I think a lot of you are missing how messed up this is. Lack of awareness and/or empathy. These comments are something else. You have to check if a building is vacant before you board it up that's just common sense, your acting like the landlord should respect their tenants privacy while they are potentially murdering them. 🤦♂️

@@tinytim4657, NO, 'I' had been SENT a TEXT by MY NEIGHBOR UPSTAIRS while I was RETURNING 'HOME' where I've been 'LIVING' for 2 MONTHS SHY of 4 YEARS, and SEVERAL of the UNITS were ALREADY BOARDED UP by 2:30pm-the TIME I ARRIVED, and was the TENANT who SUMMONED the HARVEY POLICE that IMMEDIATELY GOT the 'WORKERS' that were being OVERSEEN by a WHITE MAN in a GREEN JACKET that FRIDAY AFTERNOON to 'CEASE and DESIST' with the BOARDING UP! There are PLENTY of 'NEWS' STORIES that WILL EXPOSE the 'BACK STORY'.....WAIT and 'SEE'!

This is NOT a private issue. This is a serious crime. If any of those people had had a medical emergency, what would have happened then? ALSO, if the owners of that building were letting the property go to rack and ruin, do you honestly think that you should trust them to act responsibly in communicating to their tenants? They clearly don't know how to act like humans.

The landlord should lose the property and ownership plus pay a fine, because the fact that he didn’t go through proper channels to make sure these people had a place to stay after getting evicted from there while they’ve been paying their rent on time and everything is messed up.

No, the sheriff's dept wasn't anywhere around to evict these people and they only had 2 weeks notice at Christmas time and no where to go. People living there were being told on TikTok to call the fire department, a resident said firmly that they wouldn't come to that neighborhood. Several people posted videos of the owner and crew taking sheets of plywood from a pile and screwing the doors shut. The one lady was yelling at the man "you can do this, you have to have the sheriff, people are in there" and the man and his crew continuing to do it anyway

People are homeless mid winter they've lost their stuff, & have nowhere to go. Everyone is saying it's not their fault & trying to shift the blame to others. The city is blaming the owners, the owners are blaming the city. Everybody should have checked before they boarded up the doors & windows. & made sure these people were notified in person about what was happening. So no one would think its fake. Alot of people dropped the ball on this one & they need to pay up for it.

Who owns these buildings? That's what I would want to know. In Florida tenants can make repairs themselves and give the receipt to the property owner and deduct it from their rent legally. The city should have notified the property owner to make those repairs. Without proper eviction notices the owner of the building can be sued by the occupants of each apartment. It sounds like false imprisonment of at least one tenant . The property in the units belongs to the tenants, and the owner of the building has now taken possession of it. Which is theft or property conversion somebody's in a heap of trouble here

The property owners are liable for the cheap labor they paid for. In the end its the propery owners who will have to pay for this, then the owners can take the company they hired to court. Definitely a big lawsuit.

Are you forgetting there are deaf people in the world who would not hear as well? They live alone. Checking to confirm a unit is vacant is the owners responsibility especially with a community of vulnerable people.
