Moved out of Chicago 13 years ago after spending my whole life there. I used to go there on the job when I was a Chicago Police Detective. It could be -10 below zero, 5 feet of snow on the ground, at three O'clock in the morning, and they would be open with 30 people lined up to get a polish!

Incredible memories from early childhood growing up in Leclaire Courts Housing Projects on Chicago's Southwest Side. Not only eating but shopping for clothes and shoes in Jew Town. I can still taste and smell the grilled onions and sausages right now in Dallas, Texas! No one can emulate the culinary mastery of Chicago Chefs. I truly miss the variety of real food.

This has been served in Poland for over 200 years. My Polish immigrant family made it and ate it in Chicago in the 1880s. He didn't create it. He took what he saw local Polish people eating and started selling it at his restaurant. It's like saying that the first restaurant in Chicago to serve egg rolls created the egg roll.

When I lived in Chicago and growing up, EVERYBODY from the neighborhood was aware of Jew Town. The grilled onions are iconic for smothering the Polish Sausages. Them hot peppers aren't no joke, they are hot. I had some left over, so I took them home put them in a mason jar to eat them with another meal later, and I kid you not I took the jar out of the refrigerator and the bottom of the mason jar cracked off and the peppers fell through. Delicious but hot. Toxic hot but definitely ask for them they are delicious.
