So sad to say Uncle John passed away like 6months ago😢... R.I.P. His family reopened the new restaurant... Right by 47th and Vincennes.. They have specials on Tuesday and Wednesday..$2 off any $10 order on Tuesday... $16 slabs on Wednesday..there now called "Uncle Js"...🤗

Uncle John (Mack Sevier) passed away in June 2015. There are 2 bbq joints that carry his recipe & bbq sauce - Uncle Johns near 83rd & Cottage Grove and Uncle J's on 47th St. I haven't tried Uncle J's on 47th but Uncle Johns on Cottage Grove is VERY good. RIP Uncle John.

Whenever I go back home to Chicago my first stop is for a large order of ribtips with extra sauce and fries. I have been around the world and nothing else can compare. After that its White Castle followed swiftly by a Maxwell St. Polish Sausage. And props to you if you remember what they used to call that area back then. "JT"

I go to the Uncle John's on 82nd and cottage grove I went to the one on 47th when they first opened up and it was terrible! I may try them again they are actually closer to me.

its closed now, really going to miss this place. I came for Evanston to get those ribs. The place on 87th should not even use his name, the taste is not even close

I used to love Uncle Johns. His Q was off the chain & reminded of those old school BBQ spots back in the late ‘60’s & early ‘70’s. Those other spots that has his name pales in comparison to his quality. R.I.P.

83rd & Cottage Grove, just like Ponce Perez said, where Leon's BBQ used to be. Some say the 83rd street BBQ is not that good, I DISAGREE, the ribs, links & chicken are just as good if not better. The restaurant is much, much bigger too. It's still carry-out ONLY but you can get almost 20-25 people inside (though that would make it a little crowded). No need to stand outside when the weather is bad. A much better location, IMHO. A small off-street parking is available but be warned that Cottage Grove can be busy during rush hour time.
