Hearing the shouting at the beginning of this song along with the lyrics and date of the performance makes me feel like this song had something to do with the shape America was in at the time. The riots, Vietnam etc
@Seej1982

It was a direct reflection of the Chicago riots at the Democratic Convention in 68, hence the date in the title. The band had different lyrics to the song beforehand, but they were very mediocre.

Brady Fry-Oh, you can bet your boots it did!! The Democratic National Convention was held in Chicago on August 27, 28, and 29, 1968. They didn’t let the Republicans in. Riots ensued as a result, and people, as well as being arrested, got maced, tear gassed, shot at, their heads caved in, and some even killed. All this in the name of political freedom. And yes, the whole world WAS watching. Richard M. Nixon, the Republican candidate, was elected. 1970 and 1974 would have special things in store for him with the Kent State University murders and his resignation.

You can go to rhino and see the all the tracks by disk. But just remember, all bands have a core set of songs they will play every time and tweak a couple in or add songs from a new release. So you’ll get 8 Beginnings, 8 Ballets, etc in this boxed set. Long time fan but hard to justify the price ... you make your own judgement. I’d buy it at a different price point
@jhnstn1
@jhnstn1 3 жыл бұрын
I'd be hard put to pay the price to hear the difference. I would buy another set with the "best" versions of all of the songs performed though. I'm hearing more guitar here than in the original. Might be worth it if for the hardcore Kath fans.

Is this the KZfaq audio mangling in effect, or does the album really sound this bad?? I was all set to pre-order when word came out a few weeks back, now I'm kinda eesh, if this '2021 compression/loudness wars' approach to the original document is the way they went with it. Yes the original recording was lousy, but having heard what can be accomplished these days, some dynamic range would be nice. The performances, fantastic, but something this momentous deserves much better mixing than this, I hope it's only KZfaq.
