South Shore plus some ICG and Amtrak throughout the 1970s along the entire length of the railroad from South Bend into downtown Chicago plus other recognizable places like Michigan City, Gary, Burnham, and Kensington. This film wasn't taken all at once. The photographer (Paul Geiger) spliced the reels together roughly by location and date of filming.

2:46 I really miss the street running section in Michigan city it’s now as of 2023 a memory as the track was abandoned and the line relocated to a new double track section

I grew up in MIchigan City and have many memories of the South Shore. I enjoyed all of this video, particularly the shots at Shops of the 700's and 800's, and the pacing shots of street running. I'm old enough to remember the old passing siding in front of the MC station, and the single-point switches associated with it. I moved away in the late 60's and didn't see much of the C&O ownership, so that was interesting, too. Cheers from Wisconsin!

I saw an abandoned bridge next to the South Shore between the three and four minute mark. Could that have been a former railroad right of wa?

I believe that is a former highway bridge. In the '60s when they built the steel mill at Burns Harbor, they widened US-12 and moved it to a new alignment slightly farther south. The same location can be seen about 19:20 at a later date.

I guess you recorded the sound of the projector, I understand that it's nostalgic and all that, but it's pretty much just too loud. I'd prefer not muting the volume but the projector noise is too much at that volume for any length over a minute.

@@RailroadMediaArchive try adjusting the volume lower if possible. I hate muting it in case there's any other audio that I could miss. Thanks.
