Chicago is extremely underrated. LA doesn't even have a basic transit system, you have to drive everywhere. New York is super dirty and jam packed. Chicago is the best of both worlds.

Chicago is the best to me, from world-class museums and award-winning food and drink to a thriving live music scene, soaring architecture, and miles of waterways and green space, Chicago is a veritable playground to the culturalist. With so much to see and do, planning an itinerary can overwhelm tourists and longtime residents alike

The United States has many problems, but most of them lack clear solutions, so they remain unresolved problems.
@J_parker Жыл бұрын
However, one major problem that has a clear solution, in my opinion, is the US tax code. Please note that this is not a general complaint against US taxes, on the contrary, I personally believe that as a US citizen, we get a lot of benefits from the taxes we pay and that the IRS does a pretty good job of keeping everything in order, but it's a rail against overly complex, convoluted, and insanely inconsistent laws regarding how taxes are calculated that are so riddled with loopholes and free passes that they've become a pervasive injustice to ordinary Americans.
@Smith.ash2 Жыл бұрын
The solution: throw out the tax code and restart with a much more simplified (but not necessarily different) tax system, mainly by eliminating most of the exemptions and exceptions that benefit very, very few. (In fact, while I'm no expert, I would estimate that 99% of the existing tax code does not benefit the 95% of taxpaying US citizens.)

I just came back from Chicago. This was my first time visiting. It is truly impressive how clean and walkable the city is. There are a lot of green spaces, parks, and people walking in groups. Cleaner than Atlanta, GA, for sure. The traffic is rough on the highways, and you have to he watchful of pedestrians walking. Lastly, there is a lot of good food to go around.

I passed through Chicago once and didn't get to see much of it. The day was windy and gloomy. It was a bit cold even for late summer/early fall. I'm from South Texas and prefer the warmer weather. But this video gave me a good look at the city. I was surprised. I didn't realize how beautiful the place is, with great architecture and lots of things to do and see. It does look cleaner, safer and more manageable than New York. Chicago is still too big, too crowded and too cold for my taste, but I think it is underrated. All the movies seem to take place either in New York or LA. Yet, here is a city that offers the best of both cities.

NYC is actually quite a bit safer, but Chicago is very safe in all the neighborhoods you'd want to visit, which are the north, northwest, downtown, and south loop neighborhoods. I have lived in Chicago for 37 years, take transit and walk when and where I please, and have never had a problem. Normal vigilance such as a prudent person should exercise anywhere will keep you safe here.

That was an excellent video. Well done. Thank you for mentioning my White Sox as they are often ignored since the Cubs draw a much larger viewing audience- even having fans all over the country. On the same topic, - you mentioned Soldier field- but didn't mention the professional (American) football team it houses, the Bears (NFL) and the club football (soccer) team the Fire (MSL). Also The United Center houses both the Bulls (NBA) and the Blackhawks (NHL), and of course historic Wrigley Field home of the Cubs (MLB). Chicago also has several minor league teams in various sports. It was great that you included some interviews with actual residents. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. I hope you can come back and make a 2nd video where you visit all the places above, and maybe some of the music venues- Northerly Island, City Winery, Thalia Hall, Petrillo Music Shell in Grant Park, The Vic, The Riviera, Civic Opera House, Buddy Guy's Legends, The Chicago Theater, Fitzgerald's... etc..

I’m not from Chicago, but traveled there a lot for work. Chicago plus it’s suburbs is a cool region minus some south side, south suburbs, and west side neighborhoods and toll roads. You get tolled to death traveling through suburban Chicago. Every person I know that’s not from Chicago considered relocating to Chicago after one visit.

As someone who’s from and even currently lives in the south side, I honestly must say the south side is not that bad. Bronzeville is actually thEE 2nd most historic African American neighborhood in the country after Harlem in New York. Chicago has the best food, and some of the most gorgeous architectural homes in the city. Englewood actually was at one time the busiest place in Chicago outside of the loop. The SEARS corporation had its flagship store in englewood right on 63rd and Halsted (I believe it was halsted). People should honestly come to the south side, it’s not that bad as the media portrays. There are areas that aren’t the best but it’s not the most dangerous place in America, trust me. What can happen on the south side can happen anywhere in America and the world. Besides that, I think this guy did a great job showing the city, This is world class city, a welcoming city. Come visit and don’t be scared.

I've been saying that for years. The South Side is not as bad as some try to make it out to be. Yes, there are parts of the South Side that are bad, but the whole South Side is not bad. There are parts of the South Side that are indeed beautiful; Hyde Park, Kenwood, Beverly, Mount Greenwood, Pill Hill, west Morgan Park, and small sections like Jeffrey Manor and west Chatham. Not to mention the South Side is home to one of the top universities on the globe, the University of Chicago. That school gets ranked with the likes of Oxford, Yale, Princeton, and Harvard. The problem is when something bad happens on the South Side, the media simply says it happened on "the South Side". That means they're connecting the South Side with something negative and over time that gives people an inaccurate portrayal of the entire South Side.

I’ve stayed in/ driven through Chicago countless times, grew up in Cleveland, lived in Minneapolis for the last 48 years. My mother’s brother, Colin Middleditch, originally from England, owned a barber shop at 50 E. Oak St called Colin of London, now operated by his stepdaughter. Those winter winds off of the lake can be brutal!!

Finally back to what you do best - showcasing a city with all its virtues and vices. Very informative and slick. Chicago lives up to its reputation of being the windy city with gusts which you can lean into if not get carried away. Outside of the cold months it's definitely a beautiful city with a lot of green spaces but also enough of concrete to give competition to the big Apple as far as construction goes. Thanks for a wonderful tour.
