Delusional teen is heavily armoured and is holding hostages in order to make a scene. Intelligence use covert tactics to save the victims.
Season 4 Episode 6 "Some Friend"
Burgess and new partner Officer Sorensen (guest star Kevin Kane) respond to a noise complaint from a house, only to find a dead teenage girl inside. The unit investigates the murder, which turns out to be the home of famous local baseball player Jake McCoy (guest star Billy Burke), who happens to be an old friend of Olinsky's. Also, after Lindsay mysteriously receives an arrangement of daisies, Halstead tracks them to a florist near Leavenworth Penitentiary, a prison which Erin reveals her father has served time in.

This Is by far one of the best scenes of the show, the acting is amazing from al characters involved and you see a different kind of humanity and vulnerability in voight we never see.

Anyone else see Alvin's eyes water? And how much Hank regretted having to make the call? He tried so desperately to find a way out for Carl, so that he could be reunited with his mother. But finding himself and everyone around Carl in serious danger, he had to give the order; with a heavy heart.

To him it was personal. Because his dad basically got killed thanks to cops. Cops to him took everything away from him and got to walk away without having to answer for their actions.

The point that they’re trying to make is that he might not have been. He was very sick, yes. But you could see when he’s sitting on the floor, Hank has almost gotten through to him. The fact that he’s got hostages and an explosion that will kill all the officers on scene that Hank is responsible for is what forces Hank’s hand here. He has to do what is for the greater good which is the neutralise the volatile threat as soon as Carl’s stopped talking and loaded the gun in front of the window. But without the hostages and explosives, without so many lives in danger, Carl might have been able to be taken alive and gotten help. The situation though left Hank no choice. He had to save the many. And it meant killing the one.

This is always the thing about being a police officer. There are good and bad ones and a lot of the time people either don't want to or don't know how to tell the difference. How can you do a job where you serve the public trust but the public don't trust you?
