Mendez V Westminster had nothing to do with brown V board of education. People are inventing this today. They won the Mendez case by arguing that Mexicans were white, and the case did not end or challenge segregation in California.

Puerto Ricans also did nothing to contribute to the civil rights movement. Most people of Spanish origin (Mexicans, Cubans, Puertoricans) were *NOT MINORITIES* before the civil rights movement. They were considered to be white, so they were uninvolved with and uninterested in the civil rights movements because it simply did not concern them. They didn't have the problems that black people had. They were never legally discriminated against and were unaffected by segregation and the race laws of the day. In the 70s, long after the civil rights movement was over, that's when they started to imitate the black social movements that they wanted nothing to do with before. This is when they started their parallel movements like the Young Lords and the Chicano movement.

People are inventing this today. In the civil rights era, Mexicans were saying that they were WHITE! Every Mexican organization publically identified as white, and stated that they wanted nothing to do with the civil rights movement. LULAC and the G.I forum were white-identified organizaitons.
