Chicken Bus Wild Crazy Ride in Guatemala

Chicken Bus wild crazy drive on steep curved roads in the Guetemala highlands. I was told these bus rides can be wild but I was not prepared for the speed and wild ride. The drivers take pride in their bus in both the beautiful paint schemes of the bus itself and also in getting their passengers to their destinations as cheaply and fast as possible. Seriously, the driver was driving the bus as if it was a lamborghini accelerating and passing anything ahead of us, including numerous motorcycles!

My first bus driving job was in Guatemala driving a "chicken bus" route between Huehuetenango and San Mateo Ixtatan. Those roads way more crazy than this one and all dirt through the mountains. Had a lot of fun and that job experience got me a great gig in the states. Now driving the dream shuttle routes in Hawail. I will never forget those days in Guatemala some 30 years ago!

The bus attendant (called "brocha" 🇬🇹) has a skull print t shirt haha 😅. I rode those buses in Guatemala all my life (62 y/o now) I think motorcycles, skiing and surfing are way more dangerous. 😅 👍 🙏 💙 🇬🇹

Yeah, I've done it all as well including hang gliding and somehow managed to make it to 75! It was a kick riding the bus though

Brave you!!! FPV much? Reminds me of some of the crazy bus trips in Turkey/Italy/Greece I had the fortune to survive!

Hello Ernie, I did bring the FPV Drone and got 2 flights earlier in the trip but then the Remote Controller failed! I tried to recalibrate it without success. Real bummer because some of the places we visited would have been incredible places to fly, especially in the highlands around the Volcanoes!

Cool! This driver obviously has more talent than most greek drivers. Then again, the roads are nicer and have more “American incline” than most in Europe … Did you film this with a dslr or a phone?

Thanks, I used an iPhone 12 with a DJI Osmo Mobile 6 Gimbal. I got a kick out of both the driver and the attendant, mad skills!

Hello, Sorry I can't remember the exact name of this town, but it was a small Mayan town on the drive from Santa Catarina to Antigua Guatemala. There are no tourists there, just local Mayans and we stopped to check out the local Markets.

Actually we call them “canasteras” like “baskets buses” not chicken bus . I’m glad you made it 😂.

No, no, no hell no This makes those buses in the Middle East looks safe I don't have where it counts to get on that bus. New York City modify their school buses. So they don't even go past 50Mph I can't imagine a school bus driving like that down the street, it's badass but i can't seem myself being a Ryder 😂
