Very informative vid, thank you. I've owned one of these units for almost a year. I've not had to change the batteries yet (there is a flashing warning LED when juice gets low). On one single occasion, there was an incredible thunderstorm here when it got so freakishly dark for the time of day that the photo-sensor closed the pop-hole prematurely (at 6pm in Summer). I have the "Extreme" version with the extra-powerful motor and over-specced circuit-board, and frankly, I couldn't be happier. A very solid, reliable unit: it has made management of my chooks better for them and for me. I would just add one very IMPORTANT point: if your pop-hole hatch is made of wood, it will swell when wet, and give the ChickenGuard a very hard time when trying to raise it up along the runners to which it has stuck, sometimes to the point where ChickenGuard can't raise the hatch at all. The same problem occurs in Winter, when ice forms on the wet wood. Knowing this, I had an aluminium pop-door made to order (pretty cheaply) to overcome this problem. Thanks again.

Thanks for that tip about the wooden door. I'm looking into getting one of these openers so I'll plan to switch out the door when I do it.

I bought one of these door openers from FOYS, 7 yrs ago, never able to get it to work, it's been in my dresser drawer for 6 yrs.... your video, reminded me, that I have one. I have anywhere from 45 - 90 birds, at different times, but really gun shy about buying another auto door open, and close thing a ma gij.... I Also have a poultry butler door opener, that I could'nt figure out, broke a wire, ? So thats been sitting in the box, outside for approx 5 yrs....LOL...Your video has given me COURAGE to face the dreaded automatic door opener..............LOL

Ron Shook Sorry to hear you've had so many issues with the auto doors you've gotten. I'm not sponsored by these guys but can honestly say I've only had a good experience so far. I really hope you're able to get those going. I go out every night and count them in the coop and check doors but in the morning I leave before sun up so being able to count on it opening automatically is a big deal. You have WAY MORE than I do lol! I'd be interested in hearing if you get those working. They can be a pretty awesome. Good luck!

Great door that you built! I should have done that instead of buying the kit from the website of the metal door. Looks awesome.

Kenny S thanks! The door worked out but honestly, when it rains a lot it tends to swell and warp a bit . I haven't had too many issues but I think I may replace it with a different material. I didn't want to use thicker wood due to weight. You may be better off with the one from the kit if you get a lot of rain in your area. Thanks for the comment! ATB

I ordered the Chicken Guard Extreme. My coop is getting built March 17, 2018. I become a chicken mommy early in May. I'm so excited! Thanks for the awesome video. Where does the seal thing go? Is the Chicken Guard waterproof?
@fireballmalone1
@fireballmalone1 6 жыл бұрын
C F congratulations on getting some chickens!! I can honestly say I am super happy I got one of theses chicken guards. The front cover comes off the base and there is a small groove the seal goes in on the inside of the base. Sorry if I didn't show that in the video. It goes in fairly easy. I haven't had any issues with mine at all and it has gotten wet and we've had temps down to 0 degrees. Good luck with your chicks!! If I can help in anyway please let me know, ATB

How did you tie the cord and extend it to closed position?
@fireballmalone1
@fireballmalone1 4 жыл бұрын
One of the cool things about this device is the way it walks you through the set up. And no, I am not getting paid to say it. You can tie it open or closed and just have to go through the set up after that. I have had a few jams since the install and it has only taken a minute or so to fix. I hope this helps. Cheers!

how much did you spend on wood for this?
@fireballmalone1
@fireballmalone1 Жыл бұрын
I’m not entirely sure what the cost of lumber was for the build, but the whole coop ended up around $1200, before the enclosure and automated door setup. The roofing was a little pricey, but we’ll worth it in the end. Cheers!

sherm dog works pretty amazing actually. I’ve changed batteries twice and only had to recalibrate it once and it’s been running a looong time. One of the better decisions I’ve made, especially for letting them out in the am without fail. Hope this helps, cheers!
