Yes, and wiith altered lyrics mocking the other team's fans. It did carry on later though. A classic was when Teddy Sheringham signed for Manchester United and the team hadn't won much. "Oh Teddy, Teddy, went to Man Untied and you won f**k all". That did change of course, but it was funny at the time.

I met the lovely Chicory Tip at my nephews wedding reception in 2017 Maidstone Kent ...they were wonderful . Think there were only the 3 of them though ...still they were fantastic. I didn't really know them tbf as I was only 7 in 72 but I certainly remembered their fantastic hit of 72 ' Son of my father ' ❤

Mama said to me we gotta have your life run right Off you got to school where you can learn the rules there right Be just like your dad lad Follow in the same tradition Never go astray and stay an honest lovin' son. Son of my father Molded, I was folded, I was preform-packed Son of my father Commanded, I was branded in a plastic vac' Surrounded and confounded by statistic facts Tried to let me in but I jumped out of my skin in time I saw through the lies and read the alibi signs So I left my home I'm really on my own at last Left the trodden path and separated from the past Son of my father Changing, rearranging into someone new Son of my father Collecting and selecting independent views Knowing and I'm showing that a change is due. Son of my father Molded, I was folded, I was preform-packed Son of my father Commanded, I was branded in a plastic vac' Surrounded and confounded by statistic facts

Do you mean “0hhhhh Bolton Wanderers, the only ever team to (censored) Blackpool fan”? I was a young policeman walking around Horwich on nights in 1978, when I saw the lyrics written on the wall in a public convenience (we had them back then, and you could even use them at 2 o’clock in the morning). I went and read up all about the unfortunate chap who was the subject of the song.

The band recorded the song in secret, and couldn't get access to Giorgio's lyrics, so Peter Hewson had to sing what he thought were the lyrics, hence the difference between their version and Giorgio Moroders version. If they had known that adding their lyrics to the song was available they too could have had a cut of the writing credits and loyalties, but sadly they didn't realize and didn't receive a penny for the writing.
