ABOUT THE GOOD PLACE
From creator Michael Schur (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Parks and Recreation” and “Master of None”) comes a unique comedy about what makes a good person. The show follows Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell, “House of Lies,” “Veronica Mars”), an ordinary woman who enters the afterlife, and thanks to some kind of error, is sent to the Good Place instead of the Bad Place (which is definitely where she belongs). While hiding in plain sight from Good Place Architect Michael (Ted Danson - “Cheers,” “CSI” - in an Emmy Award-nominated performance), she’s determined to shed her old way of living and earn her spot.

I love how this show just waves off concepts like The Time Knife and stuff, casually, because it just makes the non-human characters seem so much more cosmic in scale, but also funny.

@@jonahnirmal Its classic absurdism, like jeremy bearimy or the judge putting the concept of envy on her burrito as seasoning. It plays off the idea that the universe is inherently absurd and not structured to make sense, in this case even with the existence of omnipotent beings, the universe is inherently ridiculous and nonsensical and that seeking meaning in it is pointless. Its funny that with all the philosophical subjects they talk about this one is only referenced through absurdist comedy. I mean, yeah, there is a real life idea of how higher dimensions could be folded up into shapes called "calabi-yao manifolds" but there are countless ways this could work and we have no way of knowing which model fits our own universe.... So why is time in the shape of jeremy bearimy and parallel worlds in the shape of a time knife? No reason. Its as good a shape as any, the universe is just absurd like that.

@@zoyab5593 well she did die immediately after "planning" something good and deciding to go through with it! Remember in the book of Doug's he bought flowers for his grandmother and that was minus points, but what if you planned to do that with the intent of buying her flowers (plus points) but then you die before you could make the call! So the butterfly effect couldn't really occur because ya died! That's just my theory on it! Hope this makes sense and if not.... Jeremy Bearimy !

@@starchy101 Not to mention, Mindy might have gotten bonus points for all the good that her plans inspired after her death (since her, sister was it, decided to go through with her plans before Mindy died). Also, since she was so blitzed when she thought of the good idea, it might have been considered purely altruistic since it stemmed from a, surprisingly, genuine place within herself that wanted to do good.

2:22 It’s fun rewatching this after seeing the finale and everything. You can see Shawn’s small delight on his face when he realizes Michael has found a way to keep fighting him and protecting the humans. It just means he gets to have more fun fighting back.

normally by season 3 most shows bottom out, but Schur had at least seasons 1, 2, and 7 planned out beforehand, so there's plenty to lean on in terms of keeping it focused. I feel like this will be strong for at least 5 of those

Why do people keep saying underrated I don't understand... They have their audience... They know how many people are going to watch and also that is not counting how many people worldwide stream and how many international channels pick it up... It doesn't become underrated just because 3 mil Americans watch it... People worldwide are watching... Burst. That bubble... And underrated as a word has become do boring and cliche... It's like if three out of 5 people like a strawberry smoothie then it automatically becomes underrated cos the other two aren't talking about it... I'm actually beginning to hate like hate how often that word is being used..

Fun fact! The cup that Jason is holding? It was originally a cup of beer. In a deleted scene, Shawn is unhappy that the humans get to discuss in an environment that makes the comfortable, an actual IHOP, so he changes it to a place that he’s comfortable in, a baseball stadium’s bathroom. That’s where Jason gets the cup and why he still has it. It was retouched to look like water in postproduction. Also fun fact, in the baseball stadium shift, Tahani’s scarf turned into a very drunk patron who would not stop hugging her.

I do think that it is intentional, I think that Michael really enjoys Chidi freak out about anything and that's the reason he enjoyed torturing Chidi the most. Even when Chidi got back his memories, Michael ask about the time knife cause he was expecting Chidi to freak out again but he was a little bummed out when Chidi thought the knife was cool

One of my favourite things is that of all the humans only Chidi seems to consistently react like I think I would at the utter insanity that Jason, Tahani and Eleanor just kind of roll with. His freak out about the Jeremy Bearimy, his terrified bafflement at the Time Knife, his reactions were always on point

This is such a great little fleeting moment to point out. He can’t show that he’s actually happy to keep the game going between him and Michael. Him saying there isn’t a fair place to host the experiment is just to push them to come up with something. He can’t help them because that’s not his role, but he wants to keep things going. Or I’m just reading into this and they didn’t know where that character was definitely heading yet.

Before the episode being "Chidi sees the time knife" had me thinking "_WHOA What is a TIME KNIFE_" The way the scene is just so casual and anticlimatic except for Chidi's reaction to it just made me laugh for like 10 minutes. it was weirdly genius and absolutely feels right for this series

This is a great scene to teach acting to. There are so many subtleties and it's so well done. That's probably the BEST example of "incredulity" in sound & inflection ever. And Michael's nonchalant reference to the Time Knife is the perfect delivery as well.

marta Lis I read this before exiting out of this video but had to come back because I realized something. Janet point at the dot on the “I” that’s not a random fact. We know from the show that she exists outside of time and space. Existing even beyond the demon s and other beings. The Janet’s are more akin to “god” figures. Her pointing at the “dot” represents the Janet’s removal from the standard passing of time that all other beings are subjected too. *mind blown*

It's a trope called "Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking." Basically, really awful actions are put together with minor stuff. The Good Place engages in that trope a fair amount.
