Townsend was fine in terms of not having muffed or blocked punts, but he was pretty average when it came to touchbacks. Punter is definitely the position where you want to save money, especially if you’re the Chiefs.

@@sigma6840 That’s the consensus. Not enough dough to go around. But, having Chi’s Jones in the front, and Sneed in the back, really made that defense stellar. Although, they still have plenty to build around. How fortunate they are to have George Karlaftis, only 23 years old, like a circus strongman. But, what can you do? When they lost Tyreek Hill, they juggled. So, losing a great player, forces other players to become great. The Chiefs will scout out fresh talent. That’s the game.

Chris Jones is a big part of winning 3 superbowls in a row. He is a closer. Always coming up with a sack or a block that is crucial to the final score. I wouldn't want him on another teams D for any reason.

The Matt Araiza move is a classic move by Brett Veach. His situation was just like the Trevor Bauer situation. I love Townsend, losing him means a new holder for Butker, which could make early season field goals a little interesting, but they are saving money and have a kid with a huge upside. Of course Townsend will always be a part of Chiefs history. It's emotional to lose a guy that helped win 2 Superbowls, but a good business decision. Great video Cole. Thanks!

@brianstanford5631 According to a Buffalo news article from a couple of years ago, he punts with his left foot, but he is actually right-handed. So there may be no difference to Butker. But he never held for FG's in college, so he has a lot to learn.

Matt Araiza got "me too'd" and was totally innocent of the charges levied against him. Additionally, many sports talking heads(like Stephen A. Smith) felt the need to find him guilty until proven innocent. He and others felt they had the right to destroy his career before the facts came out. He should sue Smith(ESPN) and any others who helped to destroy his reputation. Totally thrilled that the Chiefs picked him up!!!!! I wish him all the best!!

It really seems like a lot of players are being screwed by their greedy agents, whose sole purpose in life is maximum money. Not legacy, not client happiness. Everyone wants both Sneed and Jones...then there is Tranquill, who would be wonderful to have to cover injuries, etc. You can't have everyone, unfortunately. We need a WR more than we need to resign Tommy Townsend if we can get a less expensive but equally excellent player. Sigh. There are no easy answers here. I have loved watching Tommy and wish it could be different.

As a Chiefs fan living in Buffalo NY I am very familiar with Matt Ariza, he has an absolute bomber for a leg. I’m glad that the legal system worked for him and hopefully he can move on with his life/career. KC is pretty good landing spot also ;) I gotta make a comment about the Skyy Moore trade, because trading back let the packers take Christian Watson and we got stuck with Moore. I remember being upset by that trade when it happened because we lost out on Watson and still upset by it because one of those two is a rising start and the other one is Skyy Moore.

I'm absolutely stoked the Chiefs signed Matt. I saw a few of his highlights and was really impressive. I was actually jealous that this guy was on the bills and not the chiefs. I'm happy Big Red did what he does best and gave Matt another chance. I'm pretty stoked to have this guy. Hopefully, he's not on the field too often, but when he is, I'm hoping he can make an impact and make it a lot harder for opposing offenses to score. I remember Ariza in college-- they would actually put his punts on sports center. He-- as a PUNTER, mind you-- single handedly got his college (San Diego state) team some shine. That's hard to do. He truly was a weapon... My only thing is-- he better freaking know how to hold!!! Cuz Harrison Butker and Tommy had really found a groove this past year. They were in perfect sync, and that really allowed Butker to flourish. The hold is just as important as the kick!! I don't want any more drama about the FG holds (remember all that nonsense for like 2 weeks during the previous season!?) Let's get him in the building ASAP so those two, along with James Winchester, can start building chemistry

I love the signing. After the whole case was dropped cause their was absolutely no evidence against him and even evidence speaking for him noe being present at the time, I thought he was a lock to get back into the NFL in 2023, but that wasn't the case. I'm glad for him getting a 2nd chance and I'm even happier about the Chiefs providing it.

Kendrick Bourne is THE guy to bring in. This lets us draft a Tackle round 1 or even dream for a trade up to get Brock Bowers, a WR in round 2 (deep WR draft) and best available there after. Bourne has high football IQ and over 75% catch rate, the 2 most important qualities a WR can have in a Mahomes offense.

I agree, half the cost of Jones, and his effort is constant. I just hate to overpay because CJs effort ranges from average to game wrecking and we have so many folks to pay, but if they can pull it off CJ's a HOFer but like Tyreek (who will also be a HOFer I believe)... sometimes you have to move to keep other pieces. I'd hate to have to make that decision though, and I want CJ here. Good luck Veach.

Drew Rosenhaus got a haul for himself off of Tyreeks deal. You can see he clearly doesn’t care about what his athletes want. Tyreek has admitted that it was just supposed to be a bluff and he didn’t wanna go anywhere. Drew didn’t care where Tyreek played though he just wanted his percentage.

We'll see how this plays out but there's 2 aspects of TT they hopefully considered strongly. The guy was a very good holder, it's not a stretch to say it may have made a big difference in winning the SB. The one snap was straight at his head and that's way off the target so for him to get the ball in place well enough to kick a 57yd SB record kick, even if ugly, was crucial. The other issue is he had a heck of an arm for a punter, and pretty accurate. I was pleading for Reid to use that more often, they didn't in my mind.

The Chiefs won't overpay for anyone, which is exactly why we signed the Punt God. RB is another spot the Chiefs will be looking for value to save cash for Jones and Sneed. Pat will restructure for Jones payroll, he's been expressing his love for Jones all post season. MVS and Toney will get cut to make cap room for a FA WR. Every other position is open for a value move to make cap space for Sneed. And don't be suprised if CEH is resigned with a pay cut. I think it's good news for the Kingdom, the NFL just raised the salary cap by $30 mil so it's possible we could keep CJ and LJS.

It would show a nasty side of business to let Chris Jones go over money at this point. He's earned the right frankly to retire a Chief. At the same time, he earned 90M over the last 3 years, it's not like he's starving or being taken advantage of. Do a 3-year 100M and keep him here. Also, Beach should bend over backward for Sneed as well. He's earned a paycheck too. They don't lock down the top receivers in the league without him and some of those close one-score wins might be in the L column.

I might be sentimental but I honestly wouldn't mind a Omenihu extension deal, that guy was doing real work for us, and if we can give him a team friendly deal that also gives him security when he's rehabbing an ACL, I think I'd be fine with that.

Matt will be a refreshing addition to the roster. We know that Townsend had issues with Butker because he didn't want to practice his kick holds. As far as defense goes...KC would be stupid to let any part of that squad leave. How many more times will Mahomes agree to restructuring his contract to free up cap space?

Townsend was great, but if we can save money on some places to keep Jones and Sneed than that would be the most ideal. Our Defense and depth of defense is what kept us in many games last year and was consistently helping Mahomes win games and giving him that opportunity to use his magic. If we can keep our strong defense we have a great chance at a 3-pete
