Child TV Star Buried near Mount Rushmore and its Sculptors

Jeff will visit the only cemetery that has a view of Mount Rushmore, the Mountain View Cemetery in Keystone, South Dakota! Buried within its grounds are the late child star Bobby Buntrock who died in a drowning following a car crash. Also buried here is the husband of Carrie Ingalls, who was the brother-in-law to Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Other fascinating graves include men who worked on the Mount Rushmore carving, including Donald Clifford.

I enjoy visiting cemeteries, I've 🐝 trying to find my mother grave I know what cemetery she's in but can't find her. that's terrible.

Reality is that if you are covering history, most of your subjects are in cemeteries. Visiting their graves is quite interesting. Growing up in an area with a lot of history, it was an experience to see things like the difference in the graves of soldiers from both sides of the war. Keep doing what you are doing.

I don't think cemeteries are morbid, I think they are fascinating. And totally agree, visiting cemeteries and telling stories of the people who rest there is a great way to learn about history, and remember the people who were a part of it. I hope you visit more and tell more stories!

I love the Hazel show when I was a kid. I often wondered what happened to Bobby and was shocked when a few years ago I found out he had died so young I agree with your political rant. Spot on. And those who complain about you going into centuries, don’t realize that is where a lot of history can be found. Another great episode.

Totally agree with you Jeff on your view points about cemetery viewing! Back in the early 80’s me and my mom would go to the cemetery where we had family buried and sometimes we would go in the very old part of the cemetery to look at the headstones to see the names and dates ! I actually still go up there to keep are family headstones clean and the edges clear of weeds ! Keep doing it Jeff! We’re here to back ya up!!!!

Jeff, I really appreciated this video. I found it very interesting, including the few, diverse individuals you brought to our attention. I had no idea this well maintained cemetery is so near Mount Rushmore... What a horrible ending for that young man. Don’t apologize for your videos .. ever ! Not sure what people expect from you.. it’s called History Hunters for a reason and cemeteries are a great jumping off point to tell the history! You do great job telling the history of people and their lives .. I have learned so much!

I love this cemetery. Both my brothers were born in Rapid City, SD. I live next door in Montana, which also has some interesting cemeteries. The Little Bighorn battlefield does have a small cemetery in it where Custer and all those killed in the battle are buried. It is a fascinating piece to visit.

Hi Janice, thanks for the comments! I took my young family to Little Big Horn in 1997 but I wasn't shooting any video back then for a show. I would like to go back again. What was haunting was driving the loop and seeing markers scattered, documenting where the specific men were slain. It was so bad that men were committing suicide in the field to pre-empt the gruesome things to come.

Great video! I always thought Bobby did a great job on Hazel as a child actor. You can tell by their interaction on the show that they were close. I enjoy the towns that you visit as well as the cemeteries. I think it’s a nice mix.

Just like two days ago I happened to catch an episode of Hazel and I wondered what happened to Bobby. You just answered that question. When on a trip my husband and I will sometimes stop when we see an old cemetery and take a walk around. It's very interesting to read the names and dates. In a way it's like saying "Hey, you're not forgotten."

Thanks, Jeff! Great episode. Bobby Buntrock was of particular interest to me. I grew up watching the Hazel TV show and remember Bobby in the role of Harold. I knew that he had died as a young man tragically in a car accident, but didn't know the details. Thanks for telling his story.

Thank you for another great episode of History Hunters. As a kid, we used to watch & enjoy Hazel. I was so sorry to hear about Bobby Buntrock dying so young. It was interesting to hear about all the Mount Rushmore workers being scooped up into the cemetery. That was fitting. What a treat to wake up to. I love the Dakotas. I am always fascinated with cemeteries, there are names of people that no telling how long its been that someone has spoken there name. Graveyards & cemetaries were part of my childhood in North Dakota, so I'm always interested in those places you visit that I'll never see.---I've been to Mt.Rushmore several times since the early 60's, interesting to see how services have changed, from nothing more than a parking lot with viewing scopes, to shops, bathrooms, museum, auditorium, pillars, etc.

This is my first time seeing one of your videos. I can't believe that people put you down for visiting cemeteries and giving us a look at history that we may never see ourselves. That is really sad to me. I follow many other cemetery KZfaqrs because history is so important to all of us. You keep doing what you are doing and ignore the hate and ignorance that those commenters give you. As a former cemetery manager I am completely enthralled in these videos.

We personally have no issue with going to a cemetery to better tell the story of those dearly departed, whom have been forgotten so easily. It's helping keep our history alive by showing the final resting place of those who lived it. Thanks for the tour, we love the Keystone area, did you also know that cemetery is in the shape of a coffin?

Never apologize for telling about History Jeff thru cemeteries or sites. The greatest generation knew history was vital to know. The farther we get from that generation the less important people think history is. If you don’t remember history then you lose the right to complain when you realize your repeating it. Thank You for mentioning “The Greatest Generation”, I’m 65 years old now and you are the first person on KZfaq that has even remembered that. My Parents were of this generation. My Father was in WWII and so were many of my Uncles. That Generation will always be remembered as the Most Patriotic in History. The younger generation doesn’t learn about History anymore and that is truly a shame.

My first duty assignment in the USAF was Ellsworth AFB, SD (1978-1982). Visited Mount Rushmore and the Black Hills many times....absolutely stunning.....keep up the fantastic work my friend.....

Don’t fret about visiting cemeteries. I have two other KZfaqrs that I watch regularly that do cemeteries exclusively and they are honest and caring. You are doing a great service by going to the places that most of us will never be able to go to for one reason or another. Good for you Jeff for not needing to apologize for visiting and "paying" your respects to people that have pasted away. That's what we're supposed to do at grave sites. And the graves you have visited is in regards to history. I've even googled people's graves you visited to learn about these amazing people. You're doing an amazing job. If you didn't go there I wouldn't have been able due to fuel expense and my disabled problems. Thank you for showing us this cemetery. When I was a kid my family did tour the western states and I did see Mount Rushmore. It was in June of 1970 and it was cold. I remember we were in a hurry to leave to avoid a serious storm on the way.

I agree what you do is honouring the dead and sometimes forgotten people who touched our lives. Hazel was my favourite show as a child. I was born in 52 and it makes me feel grateful for the extra years I have had. I read the Laura Ingalls books growing up watched little house on the prairie and I'm glad that the men were risked their lives to create a monument were honored for it.♡ new to the show but loving it ❤️

I was recently able to visit Walnut Grove, Minnesota to visit The Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum. I also saw what locals believe is the site of the Ingall's family dugout, and a hotel where Laura worked when she was only ten-years-old. (She left this out when revising her books for a younger audience.) I've read the entire series many times and it was emotionally moving to stand in locations told about in her book, On the Banks of Plum Creek. The Little House books were the beginning of my lifelong passion for reading, writing, and History, so I was thrilled by how much background information is known about the Ingalls family and those associated with their travels. There's even a Louisiana connection not far from where I grew up. Learning about our History is important and your presentations are always engaging, informative and ethical. Thank you!

One of my husband's and mine favorite thing to do is walking through cemeteries of places we visited. Even though we didn't know anyone it was still fun to see the dates of when they lived. Don't let anyone deter you from doing this. Thanks for your interest and video. Keep on going.

Thank you for another interesting cemetery visit. I don't know why someone would complain about you going to cemeteries. Seems to me they're full of history, so a natural place for a history hunter to go. I enjoy your videos.

husband speaking - 7:30 AM in Everett, Wash. having coffee and my mush as I enjoyed another trip down History's many stories. My first trip to Mt. Rushmore was in 1972 - age 29 - Riding my little Honda 450, I came through the area after a big rain and flood that washed out the main road to the Mountain. Some times I think the little cemeteries hold more interest ( if folks would stop ) than the main attraction of the area. Again, we are all in too much of a hurry. Thanks for your stop.
