More chill and happy moments with my fav polar bears at the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat the last few weeks.
❄️ In the wild, polar bears live off the weight they gained all winter, reducing their energy and movement until winter comes again. Due to shortening winters, this means there is less time to hunt and get fat, and longer times of being unable to hunt seal, and needing to live off their fat reserves.
☀️ The bears at the Habitat also lose their fat over the summer, and their diet is changed by their staff to keep them nourished but not gaining fat. This allows the bears to naturally reduce their body fat, allowing them to be cooler all summer. They have many options to stay cool, including the use of their private lake.
