It's been my biggest complaint in the last 10 years, there aren't enough little chill locations to just explore and find or fun Easter eggs that make it feel alive, stuff that doesn't include doing the story.

Yeah I had the same feeling when I was a kid playing this game. It didn't matter that it didn't do anything, it immersed me in the game more because I felt that I was in the same game as Mario 64.

My favourite chill spot is the caravan from Pyre! This game is my happy place, the music, the characters, the vibes...everything is perfect and just hanging out in the caravan talking to your group members and clicking on random items brings me so much joy. The House of Hades also comes to mind, I guess Supergiant Games are just great at making these kind of places :)
