Reading and lecture by best-selling author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie on Thursday, Nov. 1, in the Babcock Fine Arts Center at Sweet Briar College, as part of Sweet Briar’s commitment to giving students the opportunity to meet and learn from thought leaders from around the world. Adichie is the author of several essays and novels, including “Americanah” (2013) and “Purple Hibiscus” (2003), and two viral TED Talks - “We should all be feminists” (2012) and “The danger of a single story” (2015).

I believe Chimamanda walks around seeing the world in slow motion, or how can she describe every single experience she has so perfectly. I will keep listening to all your speeches and stories till I learn to write one that will be as good as yours.

She is bold and intelligent. I feel a degree of comfort knowing that my daughter is going to grow up in a world where feminism and equality are not only a conversation but a way of life. Thank you Chimamanda.

I was thinking this week by how African educated people speak about treating women ' fairly " and equally but not living it. I was picking up the seminar I attended and how those who were talking about women missed what they have to do when it comes to certainty, specially in our universities and Seminaries. They speak it at the stage, but pretty difficult for them to accept the fact that a women speaking in boldness, be angry for things she can't agree, or not trying to be likeable as you said. They demand pretending and being likable as if it is the characteristic and discipline. As if it is a requirement to put a women as a nominee ..... of something, ( it could be a job or leadership). The more you are not your self the better you could succeed. Trust me, those who host a programs by the name of women equality or freedom them self can't differentiate the voice that comes as a result of being' the 'embodiment of stupidity' and defend for a women. Sad story! When I come to you..... I am always amazed by your boldness and by your knowing when and how to open your mouth. The feminism you refer is not about not cooking to your own family or not taking care of your children or may be not about not sheaving. The feminism you speak is not about hating being feminine.... Instead, it is about making women living in a fair world...... where she could be her self and let her boys to be them self and cry in front of women...... to teach their daughters to value them selves and not to label them selves by some idiot men who think their standard of beauty could make the value of women less. Happy women's day 🎉

I'm loving this speech just as all others I've listened. A woman being called a whore in Africa is a big insult and it's painful there is no reverse for her counterpart but I would advised he be called "The customer to a whore".
