it’s an Igbo accent, not an African accent. there are thousands of ethnic groups in Africa because -news flash- Africa is a _continent_ made up of over 50 countries and even in Nigeria alone there are over 200 ethnic groups! i’m not trying to admonish you or anything but that’s quite a dangerous thing to say in this day and age :)

scratch that, it’s a typical Nigerian accent, i just realised. an Igbo accent has more emphasis on vowels at the end of every word 😬 my first thought was Igbo accent since she is from the Igbo tribe of Nigeria

I say this very humbly,i did a paper on American civil war and my professor gave me back my paper and her comments were "you truly suprised me.I thought you would struggle with this because you are not from here.This was the best paper i have had to grade".i got a 98 but more than the grade,i got a boost in my confidence.I was good enough! My professor and i have remained great friends even after college,as she became very intrested on my views about things. As Africans or even people of African descent,we have to work twice as hard to prove ourselves but we do have to.We really have to change people's minds through our brilliance,telling our stories like Chimamanda is doing.She is changing stereotypes using her pen,peacefully.Sometimes,a pen,a good story,a good speech is better than guns,violence or aggressiveness to bring about change.She is truly an inspiration!

@Elétióbad-You must have never followed her. By the way, when you used the word "unhinged" do you perhaps mean "unfettered" Now to my point She has always been open, showed candour and has never bothered with upholding any stereotype.
@Abobagunwa
@Abobagunwa 4 жыл бұрын
Emilia Rose Actually I have always followed her right from the beginning. If you go back to her past videos say... 4yrs back, you will observe that she was more conservative in appearance - makeup, dress style, hair and even in her conversation. She still put forward her ideas, however it was in a less engaging manner and more matter-of-fact back then. Now she is open, unapologetically opinionated, and even uses reckless language like “fuck-you-ness” now 😉. I always knew ‘she didn’t give a damn’ by what she wrote in her books, but in her interviews back then, she appeared careful and a bit hesitant even in her responses. Now, Chimamanda “doesn’t give a damn in person too”, and that is the change I see. It is not a criticism though, just an observation of her growth in her journey of being in public eye.

I share your philosophy Chimamanda....especially your aspiration of involving men and women in feminism...I as an African man I would add that for one who knows how it feels to be treated differently on account of colour I ought to make it my life's work to see that no other human is ever treated or ignored on act of gender, color , status, religion or sexual orientation especially under my watch... Therefore, on that account I sort of see myself as male feminist and like Martin Luther I dream of an involution where human beings realise that we are all humans and we deserve to be accorded the same treatment irrespective of our other accidents.

We are HUMAN BEINGS. As a white woman in the U.S. with a Ph.D., I have faced horrific discrimination in the family court system in the U.S. because my ex-husband is a better liar than I am. Civil Rights are for EVERYONE. I advocate for disability rights, but it is the same fight for all those who not are straight, white men. I AM A MOTHER. That does not matter. I lost my children to an abusive monster. The female judge has a documented history of sexism, as her bias for men is appalling. That we should all be judged by our character, unfortunately, is still a dream.

One of the most important contribution is what the interviewer said about employers can talk about gender because they have daughters and wives. I will suggest that's one of the reasons gender equality is advancing faster than race equality. If I know an ideal will help improve my daughter or my wife's chances then I wouldn't mind giving up some of my previledge. This fact does not always apply to racism. It's this fact that's exercising racist people so much whenever they see White/Black relationships because they know with mixed relationships slowly but surely racial previledge will be extinct.

I agree with her, that if you are telling a story, you shouldn't need a "sensitivity reader". It removes authenticity from truth and artistic liberty from creative writing.

When chimamanda talked about hair one thing came to mind, and that’s hair on your body, your legs, your underarms, between your legs, letting it be natural has become a political statement when sometimes you’re just tired of constantly plucking it out. But letting your hair be is so emotionally exhausting in society that I remove it now just as not to have to talk about it or act as if you don’t see the looks
