China economy slumps as top party officials meet • FRANCE 24 English

Chinese authorities on Monday said the country's economy had expanded by just 4.7 percent in the second quarter, some of its slowest progress in years and a sign that official efforts to revive growth were not working. The grim data came the same day as top Communist Party officials sat down for a closed-door conclave which analysts are eyeing closely for any hint of help for the ailing economy.

Lots of EU countries has been going in and out of recession these last two years. Yet the news always seems to be that China is collapsing with 4 percent growth 🤣

CCP economic data is unreliable. If they are saying 4%, then it is around 1-2%

I think the growth-numbers you used are quite confusing. The +0.7% was compared to the first quarter (so an increase in growth) and the second two numbers were compared to the fiest two quarters from 2023 showing a decrease in growth from q1 2023 to q2 2023. It is still dire news for the chinese government (strangly to say from an European point of view), but still a bit confusing.

Last year 2 quarter was extremely strong, with 6,3% growth. And that reflects in the 2nd quarter this year. That's why, for someone who doesn't understand numbers, it seems to be a slow-down. In fact, it still signalizes a growth of over 5% for this year. France's growth rate this year will probably be below 1%, if any at all.
