Japanese song "China Night" (中国之夜 or 支那の夜) Admittedly，this is a beautiful Japanese song with a graceful melody, but many people, including the Chinese, might not know the sinister background of this otherwise touching song. In a nutshell, in the late 30s and early 40s, a series of movies were made by a Japanese-funded company 满洲映画 based in then Manchukuo in what is now Northeast China. One of the most famous films produced was China Night (支那の夜). As expected, these movies were produced by the Japanese with an aim to propagate their imperialistic and aggressive intentions. Therefore, most older Chinese who know the history and background of this song China Night aka 中国之夜 aka 支那の夜, would take the song with a pinch of salt ! But evidently, from the contents of the posts, most if not all of those non-Chinese veterans of the Korean War did not seem to be aware of this background of the song.
